There is one production company: Lycanthrope Films Limited.

US companies end in "LLC", "LLLP" etc, not "Limited".

"Limited"/"Ltd." is particular to the UK, and certain other countries.

It's clearly British... or American... or British....

Looks like a similar situation to A Fish Called Wanda from what I can see - American money, British production. How that should be classed in the field seems to be anyones guess atm!

FWIW, and no real impact, IMDb lists Wanda as co-production while Werewolf is listed as UK only...

according to wikipedia, polygram, listed first in the studio credits was a London-based company that invested in British film making and was swallowed whole by Universal in 1999.

LLC stands for "Limited Liability Company" as far as I know, so maybe in this case someone doing the credits was just too lazy to type it all, or the field to enter it was too small, or whatever....

I'd say it's USA, but I don't really care.

Or it might be a limited partnership that just goes by Limited; I've seen a couple of those here in the States so it's not very solid evidence that it's Non-US.

I would never have thought that this film could be classed as a UK film!
But hey, if the Yanks don't want it we'll definitely have it!

Can we interest the US in "Up the Chastity Belt" as an exchange?

Just noticed: someone is contributing the US disc with a CoO of US. Dare I vote no?

US companies don't end in 'Limited'?  Where do you get that notion?  How about 'Lucasfilm Ltd.'?

Not true.  There is a company right here in my home town that uses 'Limited' in its name.

Sorry, was just going by this page on Wikipedia and browsed the USA links in the right sidebar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_company

Have done a bit of further reading since Unicus posted the Lucasfilm Ltd example and this page says that:

Quote:
Allowable abbreviations may vary by U.S. State.

Note: Ltd. by itself is not a valid abbreviation for an LLC, because in some states, like Texas, Ltd. may mean a Corporation instead of an LLC.

But it also gives only these valid forms:

Quote:
LLC
LC
Ltd. Co.

So I'm rather confused. I guess it just varies depending in which state the company is registered?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_companies

I am struggling to find any details of Lycanthrope Films Limited on the Web to confirm the country it's registered in which is frustrating. Might have been a one off production company.

It's that contribution which prompted me to start this thread to get some discussion and opinions flowing. There are zero contribution notes other than stating that the COO has been added. Yet it's not clear what the COO is and certainly not clear that it's United States.

That's a good point which may cause a lot more problems... a lot of production companies are set up only to make one film, and then are dissolved at the end. Unfortunately because American Werewolf was made in the UK, obviously it made sense to set up the company in the UK. Whether that's enough to make American Werewolf a UK production is another matter...
