Some interesting comments, thanks guys.

Generally speaking I use the credits list off the back of the DVD.  I use IMDB to check my spelling (which is probably just as bad as copying from them  )

Lately (with Bond, James Bond) I have found that a person listed as "Blowfeld" on the DVD insert is listed as "Ernst Starvo Blowfeld" on that other place.  I preferr to list a full name, but is this changing the details or correcting them?

You should be entering the credits that are displayed ON SCREEN when you play the movie or TV show, exactly as they are displayed. You shouldn't be using the case and you shouldn't be changing credits because you prefer to use the full name or because you think the spelling in the credits is wrong.

You can read the rules regarding entering credits here:

Not exactly. With the new master name database and option to list cast with "as credited" option, it is possible to have the full name as the master name and then enter this name in cast credits as it appears on the screen with "as credited" option. I don't know enough about this actor to know whether he's appeared in any other movies, but having this new option makes the old rule not so clear cut.

I linked to the rules to avoid retyping them all out.

Let him get the BASICS right first. Using the DVD cover to enter credits each time is not allowed. Yes, there are some exceptions but it sounds like MoonShadow is using the cover as the norm.

I agree and let's also remember that Common Name is still not settled as to how it is determined and by whom as yet. I have seen a lot of thought s but I have yet to see any kind of consensus, it may come down to Ken programming things on his end to make the call. So let the poor guy capture the basics before moving into a realtively unkjown area quite yet.

I was wondering if you downloaded a DVD for R1 and then changed the UPC for the R4 copy would the upload be for a new DVD for the R4 version or would the R1 UPC be updated and the original lost.

Yes I understand I would have to change the other "stuff" (images, special features, sound tracks, NTSC to PAL etc.) but at least this way I would not have to re-enter all the cast and crew !!!!!

Who resckons it would work.  More importantly, who here who knows the system can verify this before I attempt it

Hi,
This is exactly how I have done a large number of my South African editions of discs. I usually use a R2 version st start so I don't have to change as much and then scan my covers to match the EAN/UPC and locality etc.
I have contributed a large number in recent days due to none being in the database for the South African locality. It DOES help with the cast and crew and event things like overview where it is just locality info that changes.
