Well, if you search any online shop in R2land, you'll see its not out.

So just buy the R1 or R4 version.

If you don't have a multiregion player you must be the only person in R2land

i thought it may of been out but had become oop...

thanks for the advice though... i have a region 2 dvd player as i was assured that i would be able to make it multi region (Sony dz111) but i am unable to do so  (even with the remote from multi region upgrades.... as i thought my remote was funked up....) and its simply beyond my circumstances to buy a replacement  :

This mob in the UK claim that they can upgrade it with a chipped remote for 22 pounds (I am not recommending them so do it at your own risk):

Sometimes searching on the net can produce the code to upgrade the machine to multizone. My brother-lin-law has done it for both his machine and my parents. I have never needed it as my machine came already multizoned. You need to look by your model number as far as I know.
Perhaps someone in the forum can help further with this process?

I didn't think Sony could be upgraded at all, but if it helps, I've used one of those chipped remote services and it worked fine. That was for my Panasonic.

They sent me a remote control with one button and a battery. They said to only insert the battery when you were about to try the upgrade, because the button can only be pressed once. If you wasn't pointing it at the DVD player when you pressed it, well done, you'll need another remote for another £20!

The early ones can't but quite a lot of the more recent ones can (though only using a programable remote, not the one that comes with the player)

FWIW, I assume you've seen:

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/Sony500.asp

is a very standard Sony hack.

This from another Forum, is probably doing the same thing but is slightly different:

Quote:

To do it with a OFA Kameleon 4:-

The DVD needs to be put in service mode. Start DVD and wait for disk to load. Press Stop followed by Eject, then turn the volume nob until the Service menu appears. Then, follow the same procedure as for most modern Sony DVD players:

1. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
2. Press DVD
3. Press 0533 (flashes twice)

4. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
5. Press 994
6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
7. Press 00189
8. Press 1 ( this sets it to key 1 - it flashes twice )

Now program function codes into buttons 2-5 like this:

* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00255 2
* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00095 3
* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00221 4
* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00079 5

To actually convert the DAV-DZ111 DVD to region-free:

13. Press 12345 - Recorder goes back to standby
14. Press 12345 - Recorder starts up

Notes:
1 - Unlike the instructions for other Sony DVDs found here and elsewhere, the device should be powered up -- the hack procedure will not work with the DVD in stand-by
2 - Player does not display "SUCCESS" or "TIMER OK", it simply powers down then powers up
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

I knew of the site, but I've been unfairly disregarding Sony. Thinking they couldn't do multi-region was a big issue, but I've also become rather disillusioned with them over the years. I think they used to be a fantastic company, but now I find them low featured and high priced when compared with others.

I must say I'm with you on that one Jon. Now looking more closely that their main rivals for any electronics nowadays.
