Am I reading correctly that the free registration is now limited to 50 DVDs  (IF you want to use the online function as well as other things that is)

If so Kudos to you Ken. IMO Anyone with 50 has spent at least $500 on DVDs and should plunk down the $30.00 for the program. I hope it works out for you.

There's no limit on collection size, but some features become unavailable.  The DVD Profiler Online collection is limited to 50 DVDs.

What I love the most is this:

Contribution of profiles and cover images, and voting on those contributions are now available only to DVD Profiler Unlimted registrants.

THANK YOU, Ken - if it's you - I never think I saw you this active before...

(Oh God, I hope it won't take this long everytime I sync with the mobile?)

No, the mobile sync won't take that long every time.  After the first sync it takes about 10 seconds total if there are no changes, and a bit more if there are.

That's a big pet peeve of mine as well.  Especially when I see people on other web sites bitching that they can't upload their 800 DVD collections any more.  Nice addition.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

Yeah, I noticed the second time around... So far, I'm so happy, I would almost ahve payed for the program all over again...

I think this is terrible.  Clearly, the new DVD Profiler looks hipper and cooler than the old one.  Some of the features make sense, but what made it a great program was that it was FREE.

Now it would be a great program, but I guess it's ultimately about profit.

Being free never made DVD Profiler a great program. Ken's skill made it a great program. You need to leave the fantasy world you live in and understand that profit is what allows every single person in the world to earn a living. Profit is what encourages development of ideas into practical applications. Profit is good. You make it sound as if it is evil incarnate. Grow up!

DVD Profiler, in the grand sceme of things, is not at all important. That which is free remains the most important items in life: life itself, sunrises, family, sunsets, oceans, lakes, rivers, the land separating them... sky, fire, air, trees, flowers, grass...

DVD Profiler is a luxury. You don't care for the free version? Don't use it. Want the nice version? Pay the (minimalist) charge to get it.

We make choices... selling our souls for megabucks, working hard for a reasonable income, sitting back on the dole. A night of barhopping/pubcrawling or buying a book or DVD. Repairing the roof or buying a car.

Everything is choice & compromise, whether you are dirt poor or filthy rich, or like most of us.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I bet Ken and Gerri (there's rhyming fun to be had there! ) are the sort of people who like to have food on the table and a roof over their head. I dunno, you get all sorts these days!

Funny. I've been saying for a while that some features should only be available to paying customers (particularly profile submissions) and was always howled down. Now that it has happened, nearly everyone seems happy about it.

Besides, the local database use is still free. Just be thankful non-payers didn't get cut off entirely from the on-line database.

BTW, I would have been happy to pay an upgrade fee. Version 3 being a free upgrade is just icing on the cake!

Edit: and I notice the price hasn't gone up!
