Hi,

I've been using V2.x for years and was quite satisfied with it.

I also contributed to hundred of DVD especially for region 2 movies.

I just installed V3.0.2 and I am about to register.

So I backuped my database from old version to the new one, but when I click on "View Contributors", either the list is empty or very recent contributors are appearing (April/May 2007).

Because, when I look at the new contributors for most of the movies I own, some of them only changed a comma (when they changed something !) "just" to appear in the contributors list.

Does it mean that previous contributors from 2.x who spent hours and hours fo really fill the database for other users won't appear anymore ?

I'm not asking to have my name or other user's name in the hall of fame but give back to Caesar what is Caesar's !! In v2.x, when accepting/rejecting contributions from other users, I could just by seeing his nickname agree with his changes made in the database because I knew that he was an active and efficient contributor.

I red that Ken is about to integrate the movies that are not yet in V3.x database with the previous database. So, will the 2.x contributors reappear in V3.x ?

Can't he integrate contributors who made the database of 2.x so that we have a trusty contributors list ?

Thanks

Pierre

Yes I also regret the fact I lost all the credits for all the Profiles and Images I contributed in the past and it appears other users have made them, but I do not think I can do something about it.

This was done to populate the V.3.0 Db. I don't care who contributed them, as long as they are in the Db. But that's just me

Seconded. I contribute in an effort to make the database better. I don't really care if anybody knows that I did so...

I care. I like to see and show others the work I've done. It's really a lot of work to create (almost) perfect profiles and cover scans and I like to be given some credit for it. And this has nothing to do about my name on top of the list, but just a reference to the ones who helped to create a profile and its images. In 3.0+ it now sometimes appears if these were done by only 1 or 2 users and that's simply not true. I hope the merge with the database of 2.4/5 will also bring back the users who helped to build it.

No, it doesn't.  It appears just like what happened:  the database was rebuilt from scratch, with everybody contributing profiles that they found needed to be entered.  Egos don't enter in it.

Gotta agree - who really cares as long as the community work together in getting the most accurate information into the database

I also have to agree... as long as the work is getting done... I couldn't care less about my name being on with it... matter of fact I personally wouldn't care if Ken decided to do away with putting our names on the profiles we contribute to.

For me at least it is just about putting together a good profile and sharing it with the entire community.

Yes but those who have put in the hard yards and made great profiles, don't get the credit for it. There is a word for it....it's coming to me..... Leech?

I believe in giving credit when it's due. But I also understand and see the other side of the coin, we need to rebuild the DB, and yes i too have submitted all those in my DB that hadn’t been submitted. Most of those were ones I’d done myself previously, but some were not.

Just thank our lucky starts that DVDProfiler is back and better than ever!! Long live the King!

In the old days, when we were allow to contribute annoymous that is what I did.  It was only when the system changed and no longer allowed annoymous contributions that my name got associated with contributions.  All of us have done work on the old 2.X profiles that didn't get credit for the 3.0 profiles, so be it, it was the nature of the beast.

Just because you contributed it to 2.x and it is in 3.x doesn't necessarily mean that the one in the new database was the one you originally created.  Yes, I know there was a rush to populate the new database and if you feel wronged because someone contributed a profile you orginally worked hard on then I am sorry.  We were asked to do that by Ken to populate the database.  But there is nothing to say that the person didn't create some of those profiles from scratch for 3.x.  If you followed the rules and they followed the rules then technically you shouldn't be able to tell the difference in the profile (though yes I understand images are a different story).  Yes, I mass uploaded a large amount of profiles I did not oringally create.  I also know others uploaded profiles I created orignally.  I also redid a few from scratch.  The only thing I really care about is that they are uploaded for others to make use of them.

Again I am sorry if you feel wronged and if I don't sound sympethetic, I was in the military and it was normal to see other get credit for the work you did.  I just had to learn it wasn't who was given credit, but that the work was done and you knew you did your part.

At least I care about the DVDs I really own. And I like to give credit to the ones who also own these DVDs and help to enhance the associated profiles, not to the ones who just add them to their list and think they are the contribution police.

Where are the coppers? Have'nt seen them arround for now. But I sympathise with your view, reviewing a dvd takes a lot of time.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Yes IVS and Invelos are the same company now and have a new DB populated by various contributors.  Would it have been nice to initially populate directly from v2.X with contribution notes to v3.0 yes. But, we have already passed that road and there's no looking back.

All I can say is, just continue trying "to create (almost) perfect profiles and cover scans" with the new DB.  There was a lot of junk that got in during the mass contribution so there is no lack of profiles out there that need fixing past the CoO updates.
