Ok, would you mind dropping by my place and check the bi-daily updates for me then? I'd appreciate it, and surely my girlfriend will, too...

Hm, if I do that, where would your girlfriend be?

Interesting to see how this poll changed from a 9:1 majority for an US default to 78:20 majority against it.

I vote leave it blank too. It isn't about how many titles in the database, but surely how users will be affected? For instance, over a quarter of my collection is not American in origin. Obviously I would never accept such a disastrous update, but if I did, that's a lot of work. Not to mention it doesn't warrant an update on its own, but then someone else will change it and whoops, it updates back to US.

No ta.

I am for defaulting to United States. This will save much work as most listings will be United States by far.

I changed my vote to "I honestly don't care".  CoOs are being submitted without documentation and accepted without question.  Defaulting to blank instead of something isn't going to change that.

Submitted w/o documentation, yes. Accepted w/o question, no. By you, maybe...

I meant accepted into the main db without question.  Most of the CoO contribution have notes that say, "added CoO".  Most of them get an overwhelming number of 'yes' votes.  Most of them get accepted, into the main db, without question.

The fact that you are not accepting them into your local doesn't change the fact that the main db is now full of undocumented data.

Now that the flurry of these are done (with the imported files), I think it is time we start questioning the COO.  But it really cannot be as simple as "where is your documentation".  If someone submits a COO that you feel is invalid, then vote no and state why you think it is no but again, your reason for a no vote should not be "no documentation".

This is no different than when people vote yes (or no for that matter) for a cast/crew change for an item that is in their wishlist!!  How in the world are they supposed to know how things are listed in the credits when they don't even have the DVD?  They have no proof against -- and voting no for the COO without you providing proof against is no different!!

(I say "you" in general, not toward any one person)

If I saw a cast change with the contribution note, "added cast," I would vote no with the comment, "added from what source?"

A CoO submission with the note, "added CoO," is no different so why would I treat it differently?  Shouldn't the person making the contribution, at the very least, tell me why the CoO should be what they claim it is?  The comparison screen already shows me what was changed so I don't need the notes to tell me what was changed...I need them to tell me why it was changed.

I don't think people should be voting on titles they don't own.  As you said, how do they know what is on the DVD if they don't have it in hand...but that is an issue for another time.
