Surnow and Cochran are credited as "Created by" on each episode of 24. Do we credit them - "Original Characters by" or "Original Material by"?

I've used "Original Characters by" in my contributions, as I feel that "Original Material by" suggests that they are responsible for the entire storyline in each season - and there are always "Writers" and/or "Screenwriters" credited on each episode.

I've seen some threads suggesting that Ken implements "Created by" as an option, but until then we should have an alternate option?

Feedback appreciated!

Already discussed here.

Btw. I don't use "Created by" credits at all (until Ken has added this option to the crew)

The thread you are referring to was started by me, and it's a more general approach to the issue - what I'm looking for here is specific viewpoints concerning Surnow and Cochran....

Characters would be the better fit.

Material is when the writing is based on something else, say a book, in this case, the episodes are like sequels, not based on the original, but a continuation of what came before.

OCB would be the most appropriate choice and I would not argue it. That said I can appreciate Tigi's position.

I agree that OCB is the closest of the current credits in DVDP, but a TV series is a lot more that just the characters. OCB is perfect eg. for Superman, Spiderman, etc. where the person who created the character might not have anything to do with the actual story in the movie.

OM is not a good choice either. I always assumed that the notes in the Rules (Adapted from another medium) refers to some published work, like is said in the help text in DVDP (book, poem, song etc). Because of that I think that OM credits is used wrongly many times.

I just finished complete cast and crew for The West Wing seasons 1 and 7. First I credited Aaron Sorkin with OCB, but then I deleted him before contributing. I will edit the profiles again when Ken has implemented Created by credit in DVDP.
