No, don't use it. Why should you? There is a field for this called media

Since this is not yet a published rule (text stolen from another thread), this is still an open issue and discussion is not closed!

The images in the database are supposed to be of the "coverart".  The banner is not part of the coverart, it is part of the case.

Someone who currently owns ZERO HD disks, should have absolutely no concerns about having to redo work.

I have concerns about users like you attempting to impose their will on other users and forcing THEM to redo their work, hal.

I do own HD-DVDs, and I'm against it. Why? Because the rules say cover, not cover+banner.
See, I can back my cause with valid arguments, and also DVDP is not a democracy (which I was told severaly times at least).

Also, DVDP includes an option to crop the covers, so actually nobody needs to redo anything

Explain how Hal is trying to force anything. He just gave his opinion and stated correctly that the matter is not closed. YOU want to accuse people of being overbearing?

By my reckoning this has been discussed at least 4 separate times in the past year, With the end result being to use the banner. I am saying it is done, over with. I don't agree with using Widescreen Collection on EVERY title just because it's there, we have a specific section of the program that deals with THAT specific information for every title. Should I bring it up every 6 months to try and get the result that I want. Or should just swallow hard and go with the flow. I choose to swallow hard, what would be served to do otherwise, if I kept polling to try to get my way and finally won, then YOU would have to go back and undo your work, if you wished to Contribute. I don't believe in moving the field goal once they are set, it only discourages people from contributing, this poll says to use the banner, the next one says not to and so on...where does it end. When you get the result you want...but what about the user on the other side, if you have the right to move the goal pst does he not have an equal right to do so. So we have nothing more than a musch more difficult game of ping-pong, as in the old days, only this time its based on votes.

Do you understand my point.

Skip, why are you effected by the HighDef media discussion? Is your wishlist that extensive?

BTW, you should change your Timecop DVD into the RC4 edition, which is widescreen opposed to the RC1. Or you could wait till fall when Universal releases the HDDVD...

I might not be affected now, Peter. Does that mean I can raise the issue for a new poll when I am? I don't think you are seeing my point.

I don't really see that you have a point. Going on four different discussions in the past year doesn't really matter when that period covers the largest acceleration of growth concerning hi-def media. Each time this comes up, more people have invested in hi-def and therefore have a good handle on the issue, rendering them able to make more than a superficial judgment. The last couple of days of discussion and polling have seen a far more even spread than before. Yes, it's still ping-ponging. What of it? It's an unsettled issue, hence discussion.

Perhaps rather than vicariously echoing a rapidly evolving viewpoint, you could actually answer the question that I asked? What is the deal with attacking Hal's expression of his opinion as "imposing his will on others?" As one of the more opinionated people here, if I were you I'd not have leapt in quite so heavily.

If all it comes down to is that you're sick of the same discussion, then I'll say it again, don't take part. Simple as that. No-one's trying to overthrow anything, there's nothing to overthrow.

There is a field called "media", that when HD DVD, (HD DVD & DVD for the Combos) or Blu-ray is checked, an HD DVD, (DVD & HD DVD for the Combo) or Blu-ray icons will show up in "DVD Profiler 3".

The icons do not show up in the on-line contribution profiles.

The only HD designation in the on-line contribution profile is an inconspicuous (Blu-ray) or (HD DVD), that appears on the UPC# field and is right next to the UPC number itself.

Unless you are purposely searching for this when your looking on-line, you will have to know what you're looking for, because it does not stand-out, as it does in the DVD Profiler.

Yes, and the same is true for DVD Profiler Mobile. Nor is there a way to filter for these in DVD Profile Mobile. You have to spot them using the cover only as there is no other data available.

Has anyone seen an HD DVD or Blu-ray "cover" without the top banner anywhere on the internet or in print advertising? Anywhere?

The goal post gets set in place when the Rules address the situation!

Til then, it's an open question.
