We are currently working on updated instructions for submitting updates to the HMDB.  Ken's update to the database repair utility to preserve Cast & Crew with headshots will make everyone's jobs easier, and the submission files much smaller with less junk.

Watch this topic for updated instructions in the next few days, and we can begin working on the HMDB v 3.0!

You can get the HMDB from any of the mirrors listed at this page.

Current Version is 2

Restoring the current version of the HMDB to your local database:
Quote:
    A.  Download the HMDB from one of the mirrors Here
    B.  In DVDP: File | Restore Database
    B.  Browse to the location of the Master_Headshots_Backup.dpb file you just downloaded.
    D.  Select the file, click Open | Next
    E.  Uncheck all options except "Restore cast and crew databases (including photos)"
    F.  Select Let me Compare and click OK.

The New & Revised instructions for submitting updates to the Headshot Master Database are finally ready:

Here's the quick and Dirty Checklist:

Quote:

1.  Find New\Better headshots and put them in your local database.
2.  Perform a Cast & Crew only backup of your local database.
3.  Create a HMDB database option in DVDP 3 (skip this step if you already have one.)
4.  Open your HMDB database
5.  Restore your Cast & Crew only backup
6.  Perform a database repair
7.  Perform a Cast & Crew only backup of your HMDB database.
8.  Choose a webspace upload location
9.  Email the URL(s) for your backup file(s) to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com

Detailed Instructions:

1.  Find New\Better headshots and put them in your local database.

2.  Perform a Cast & Crew only backup of your local database.
    A.  File | Backup Database
    B.  Choose a name and location for the backup.  Name it something like backup_CC.dpb.
    C.  Uncheck all options except "Include cast/crew databases, with photos"
    D.  Click OK.

3.  Create a HMDB database option in DVDP 3 (skip this step if you already have one.)
    A.  File | Open Database
    B.  Click New Database
    C.  Name the database something like HMDB
    D.  Make sure "Copy the current database" is NOT checked and click OK | Yes

4.  Open your HMDB database
    A. From the File | Open Database window, double click your HMDB database

5.  5.  Restore your Cast & Crew only backup
    A.  File | Restore Database
    B.  Browse to the location of your backup_CC.dpb
    C.  Select the file, click Open | Next
    D.  Uncheck all options except "Restore cast and crew databases (including photos)"
    E.  Since this is the backup from your Main Local Database, select Replace Existing
    F.  Click OK

6.  Perform a database repair on your HMDB database.
This removes all C&C without headshots from your HMDB database to make your submission file as compact as possible.
    A.  Tools | Options | Utilities
    B.  Click Repair DVD Profiler Database | Yes
    C.  DVDP will close, and the repair tool will start.  Either do a Full repair with every option checked
    D.  Or do a Custom repair with at least the following 4 options checked:
        1. Remove unused
        2. Cast members
        3. Crew members
        4. Preserve cast\crew with images
    E.  Click Repair

7.  Perform a Cast & Crew only backup of your HMDB database.
    A.  File | Backup Database
    B.  Choose a name and location for the backup including your DVDP forum username in the filename: <username>backup_CC.dpb.
    C.  Uncheck all options except "Include cast/crew databases, with photos"
    D.  Click OK.

8.  Choose a webspace upload location
    A.  If you have access to your own webspace, upload your <username>backup_CC.dpb file and note the URL.
Using this method is preferred since there are download limits involved with Rapidshare.com
    B.  If you do not have access to your own webspace:
        1.  Split the backup file using WinZip.  See post #2, Step #4 Here for instructions.
        2.  Upload the file(s) to RapidShare.  See post #2, Step #5 Here for instructions.

9.  Email the URL(s) for your backup file(s) to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com
    A.  List the URLs to each part of your backup file if it is split.
    B.  Please make a note in your email if you use nudity or cleavage shots in your local database.

Thanks for submitting!

Does the file will be just the update headshot ? Since I don't have a fast conection (56k modem) the download take a lot of time (a night). By the way good job on the last version.

Thanks for the kudos.  A lot of work from a bunch of different folks goes into putting the HMDB together.

Unfortunately, It is practically impossible to put together an "update" version of the HMDB without running 2 computers side by side and performing a visual comparison of all the Cast & Crew one at a time and manually removing the "Ver 2 existing" headshots.

Version 3 will be the complete HMDB.  We might be able to break it into smaller chunks and post those on one of the mirrors, but you would still need all the chunks to use it.

New instructions for submissions have been posted. See post # 2 above.

Aside from some tweaking in the actual verbiage of the instructions, there are 2 main changes/additions:

1.  Option to use webspace other than rapidshare.com if possible.
2.  Creating a HMDB database & performing database repair to remove C&C without a headshot and make submission file smaller.

awesome job, i love it, great to jump through dvds with the actors face

i have a question though why is the head shot differ from cast and crew?

big fish : danny devito (awesome headshot)
garden state: danny devito (one from a movie)

both different, maybe we should vote on 1 headshot, and use it for all accurences

that being said ill will hunt down headshots for all my horror movies..whew.

The reason headshots differ is because the cast & crew are separate databases.  In essence, DVDPro considers Danny D. the actor different from Danny D. the director/producer/crew member.  Because of this, a head shot had to be added separately for each.  The person that added Danny must have found one image while doing the cast entry, and found a different one for the crew.

Once we have found most of the actors\crew, we may go back and standardize, but that is way in the future.  In the meantime, if a higher quality pic is submitted for either the cast or crew entry, it will be chosen for the HMDB.

Looking forward to your horror movie additions!

It's still in the works.  My file server crashed, and I am in the process of locating the tape that has the previously submitted backup files.  I am hoping to have it ready when 3.0 comes out.  Right now, no ETA, just that it is still in the works.

Good job again. This time I didn't download it at home and it was way faster. 20 minutes is certainly better than 5 hours and more. It's practical that the university it just in front of my house.

Wohoo, GREAT work! Thank you so much.

Is there any possibility to get these pictures for uploading to the online collection?
I did upload a huge headshot collection but your pictures have a much better quality...
