I just installed this plug-in.  Its a great idea, but I'm having a little trouble with it.  I have an 80gb 5th gen ipod, that does movies, photos, music, and games and all that.

The notes for the dvdprofiler list came out correctly, however all the images display as what looks like a static filled tv.

I plugged the ipod back into the computer, and looked at the covers folder on the ipod.  all the .jpg files display fine on the computer, but when the ipod tries to display them its static.

Now I did at one time see a couple of them display the cover, but they sere stretched to fit the ipods screen, and looked really bad.  Is this an issue with the exporter making the jpg files?  or a setting on my ipod?

The exporter just copies the thumbnails of DVDp to your ipod, nothing special is done. What's the version of your ipod software?

Finally got around to running this on my 60GB iPod and like how it works.

Any chance of only having flagged items being exported instead of all items?  I have alot of my TV series broken down by disc and having only flagged entries exported would alleviate unneccessary items on the iPod.

Thanks.
Gotta nip it in the bud, Andy!

@stuthemonkey

If you only had it a couple of weeks, I'm guessing that you have the newer Ipod Classic, it's highest version is 1.0.2, the older 5th gen have version 1.2.1. Which is what I have. (You can find all the software for different Ipods here). Looks liike Apple starts there version numbering with each new ipod line. The document I based the scripts on only mentioned a limitation with photos on 5th gen version 1.2 as this was needed. But it came out before the Classic. You would hope the support wouldn't stop there. I'll see if I can find anything else written about it.

@Overseer

There is a very good chance of having flag entries exported. I had it in originally, but back it out at the last moment, can't remember the reason why. The way there were sorted I think. I'm going to take another look at it and put in back in.

@tlevel: The ipod i have is in fact an 80gb ipod classic.  So I guess thats the problem.  Interesting that I had one photo from your exporter work, then they all started failing.  But since its different software versions on the ipod, its not surprising that there are glitches with it.

Hopefully there will eventually be a fix, but at least for now I can see the listing of all of my movies.  Which is a great start.  I'd love to be able to click on them and see the description of the movie, not sure if that would be easily doable or not.  But would be nice as a flag you can set during export to export the descriptions if you wanted.

Anyway keep up the good work on the plug-in.  I'll check back ocassionally to see if you found anything out about the new classic ipods.

Thanks

I hope I find out something too. I want to upgrade to a newer ipod also and would hope that this exporter would work. Has anybody else used this exporter with an Ipod classic and are getting the same results as Stuthemonkey?

I was originally planning to have a mini profile included. But since the notes feature only supports up to 1000 notes that wasn't enough for my collection. Also the way it scans each note after you upload to verify the html, it would take a long time for any large collection to process them before you can even use it. I saw some talk on getting around this 1000 notes limitation on other websites, and I'll see if there is something that can be done, but if the processing time takes a long time to complete, I don't think it would be practical still, but who knows.

I just discovered this plugin. It looks like it would be exactly what I need.

However, when I click on the "Find Ipod" button, I get the message "Notes not enabled" -- What do I need to do to enable notes?

Thanks in advance.

edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. I use Rockbox instead of the regular iPod OS, so I had deleted all default folders. All I had to do was re-create the "Notes" folders in the root of my iPod.

Another question though:

tlevel, what do you mean by "the notes feature only supports up to 1000 notes"?

I'm assuming it does not mean a maximum of 1000 titles can be exported? Or does it?

Hi Astrakan,

Hope you like it. Apple has limitation on it's notes features that it will only allow 1000 notes (files), maximum 4kb each file. So you can have as many titles that can fit into about 4mb of space. I was first worried about this too. As I originally wanted a 'mini' profile downloaded for each profile, but couldn't do that because my collection was above the 1000 limit also. That's why the format is what you see. Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Tlevel

Gotcha.

I'm assuming that I won't reach the 4kb file-size limit even if I select to use 150 titles per file? Or should I go with a smaller number to be on the safe side?

And yes, I do like it. A lot. It's exactly what I need. I don't own or have a use for a PDA, so I can't use DVD Profiler Mobile. I always carry my iPod with me though, so this plugin is awesome. I'll never end up buying duplicate titles again! Something which I've been known to do all too often in the past unfortunately.

So, THANKS!

One more question:

When I want to synch my iPod with DVD Profiler, should I remove the files from the iPod and do a fresh export each time?

You shouldn't have to worry about the number of titles at all per file. If the size gets to 4kb, it automatically starts a new file. If you don't want the covers to display you can squeeze more titles into one file, I can get about 65 -75 titles on average depending on the length of each title.

And no, you don't have to clean up the files before you do another sync, it does that also. (Warning though, you DO NOT want to keep any other files in those directories, as they will get wiped out also). But creating new directories is fine.

There is going to be a new version soon, will allow you to have a new category called "flagged".

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Good news about the new version. I don't know that I personally will use the new flags feature, but I'm sure there are others who will.

Good work on this.

I would also like to thank you for this plugin!!

I have however one question: the "Export to iPod" command allways ends up bellow the exit command, even if I change it in the program?

Why can't it stay where I want it to?

Neo: Yeah. That sounds like a really good deal. But I got a better one. How about... I give you the finger... and you give me my phone call?
Agent Smith: Mr. Anderson... you disappoint me.
Neo: You can't scare me with this Gestapo crap. I know my rights. I want my phone call.
Agent Smith: Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak?

Hi Nozgark,

Sorry about where the menu stays, currently a limitation with the way the plugins are allowed to create menu items. If there is ever a change to that, I will fix it right away. I don't like where it is either.

Regards,
