I swear, we have a number of users whose whole existence centers around pretending or imagining insults for their own nefarious purposes.

That number being one?

Simple answer, DoubleDown. users like you.<shakes head>

Really?  How is that?  What have I said or done to indicate that the problem lies with 'users like me'?  Besides calling you out for your obnoxious behavior?

I think your biggest problem is that you sincerely think your actions are righteous as well as justified.  If that would be true, then that would mean everyone else is wrong.

It's "Common Name" not "Correct Name" "Proper Name" "Given Name" "Favorite Name" or any other definition.  The CLT results determine the common name.  If incorrect entries are causing the results to skew, the results will shift when the corrections are made.  The CLT pulls from the Credited As field only, and not the common name.

If you spot a user who is submitting IMDB or other third party data in violation of their policies, be sure to vote it down and/or let us know via ticket.  If you note a user continuing to do this, open a ticket.  If we spot a pattern, they'll be permanently banned from contributions quickly.

*UPDATE* Some were interpreting this to mean the CLT result is the correct common name regardless of other factors.  Our prior position still stands:

Quote:
The lookup tool is not to be blindly trusted, however it does outweigh other sources, including autographs.  The common name is not intended to always reflect the "real name", but the most commonly credited name.

However, if a user documents errors in the database where the credit is not entered properly, that can and should be considered.  Better yet, correct the entries, assuming you own the discs in question, thereby correcting the lookup results.

The bottom line is simple - we're after the most commonly credited name.  As in the original post, and in this post, the best solution is to correct the incorrect profiles so the CLT reflects the most commonly credited name.
