It's not normally a problem, but I've just done 24 S6 and of course a certain negative-happy voter either failed to realise that a half-complete sentence wasn't where my notes finished, or just jumped on a chance to lash out; every other voter managed to figure it out.

This sentence had warranted a moderator censorship in another forum I'm reading from time to time so I doo believe this was the thing he was talking about. However if that particular sentence was about me I would not take it as insult but more sarcastic remark about somethin/someone irritating you. However the whole thing could be an honest mistake on the voters side and therefore one could get insulted by it. After all we all react different to things and therfore its best to avoid remarks like that. This is just an observation on my part, I'm not taking any sides in this wordbattle!!!

sorry got a little sidetracked. to the point LANCELOT!

I do agree with you on the posts main theme as I have noticed this too (and I have voted wrongly in one occation on this, sorry about that). Of course one could do as Tom said, but i believe that some people dont know about it and others don't bother to check it. And on some occations you vote so many times in a short while that you actually can get things mixed up.

I too would like for all of the notes to show or at the very least a link and the end of the truncated notes which indicates that there is more.

I'm yet to run into a full limit in the contribution notes window, and everything appears in the notes history for each title, but notes over a certain length are cut off in the voting window (about 1000 characters by the look of things), so people can't see all the documentation for changes unless they go into the program and access the contribution history for that title manually.

I agree on having more space in the contribution note display. But do you realize that there is a direct link to the contribution notes history on the evaluation screen? No need to go inside the program.

Yeah, I use this link too when I notice that the notes are cut short. But Nadja's right, we definitely need something, at the very least, to let us know that the notes are cut short, or even better, the full notes displayed on the voting page.

Next time rather than stooping to a thinly veiled insulting remark, try a PM. That's all it would have taken.

One of the distinct disadvantages of the childish behavior of no communication.

Truth is, if you hadn't "outed" yourself, no one would have known who Nadja was talking about!

Why don't I provide what? You claim to have evidence of me starting fights on the forums, I know I haven't, what exactly do you want me to provide?

You ARE negative-happy, Skip. You jump on any excuse to give me negative votes, and I'm not the only one you do it to, but I don't care, I've never brought it up either in public or PM with anyone, and given that nine times out of ten it is clear that you are either wrong or voting to preference, it doesn't make a difference.

THIS one, however, was indicative of a problem, not just with you, but with the program itself, and hence I brought it to the forum. And it will be said that I didn't make it about you, YOU'RE the one who put yourself in the spotlight. You changed your vote, so if you hadn't started up (which in fairness I should have anticipated, you having absolutely no impulse control), no-one would even have known. It's your paranoia and thin-to-no-skin that made this fight, not my anonymous comments.

Now, put up, why don't you? All you need to do to "win" this is prove your initial complaint against me; your insistence that I start fights. These days, at any given time, it can be assumed that there are anything around half a dozen threads in the contributions forum in which you are being uncivil, that doesn't need backing up. But once you take off your red-tinted glasses and actually look at me, you'll find that it's NOT me starting fights, with anyone, even you. Unless you can turn it around, prove me tp be the liar and PROVIDE THE NAME. That's ALL you have to do. Why haven't you done it yet?

I dare say, that if someone took the time to do the research, they would find that every locked thread on this forum has had one and only one common poster!

I agree.  I've made several contributions recently on TV sets where they get truncated, leaving out important information.

I personally would not support longer contribution notes. Keep it short and simple and put the most vital information first.

Course I have a very different view of contribution notes that most of you do

LOL!
Gerri - could you answer, is there a size limit on contribution notes?
Maybe rather than making the voting page show the whole notes, a restriction should be introduced so the notes can't be longer than what's visible.

If you are making wholesale updates to profiles, especially in the cast and crew section, unless you document every single thing, certain users will surely vote "no".

I clearly understand why you prefer them to be short.

Either way, I've edited the notes to tell people to either look at the entirety through the program, or navigate to a txt file I put on my webspace with the whole thing, but this is a little too roundabout to be policy, particularly when common names need so much documentation. Ken, this can't be a difficult change to make, please have a look at this situation.

It happened to me once, a very long note and someone (not Skip) didn't realize that one more sentence was there.
I don't think we should presume ill will on the part of voters.

Ok.
My next contribution note will be short and simple: "Who says so? I say so."

If instead of making the ASSumption that was made, Hal, a simple PM would have rectified the matter. But as Enry, has noted, Nadja ASSumed ill-will and took that as an opportunity to take a swipe at someone, A graphic example of what happens when you ASSume, you only show your true colors.

And yes, I understand why Gerri, why you would not want longer notes, but I think what Nadja was referring to, is that unless you look for it. Our notes are limited to 1000 characters, but the notes that a voter sees are truncated to 500 unless he happens to realize that there is more information hidden. I actually find the 500 character limit to very manageable with the way in which I manage my collection, in smaller bites, making use of child profiles. But for those who like masive loads of data, I can see why that limit might become more difficult. Personally it sounds to like yet another very good reason to make use of Child Profiles and break up the data.

Skip, you have no idea what Nadja's motives were for making this request, don't ASSume you do. And it was also totally irrelevant to Hal's post.

And the size of the data is not a factor to the size of the contribution notes either. Every time I have seen this happen, it has been on a single movie profile.

Speaking from experience, you can submit notes greater than 1,000 characters but voters see only the first 1,000 characters of a note when voting.  The Contribution notes history page will contain the full text of the submitted notes (if that has an upper limit i don't know what it is).

Now i usually draft my notes in a text editor with a character count function and keep them under 1,000 just to avoid this sort of confusion.  It can get tough when you have a lot of things to document.  Sometimes i end up taking out small words (read aloud my notes might sound like Tonto or Tarzan wrote them) or using TinyURL.com to shrink space used by URLs.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!
