Excellent suggestion, Rick. It would be a great addition to the forum.

I corrected your post for you.  Although the vote is currently 61-4, Skip is the only person posting against the request.

Some twists should never be revealed gratuitously.

Spoilers are called spoilers for a reason. As long as you can't delete memories you rob the spoilered person of a once in a lifetime chance to get to know a storyline as it unfolds in the movie (or book, or ...)

cya, Mithi

i agree - just because a dvd comes out that doesn't mean everybody has already ordered it. Some of us try and wait for it to come down in price.

And I don't see why a spoiler has to be un-spoilered after a set date..

I'm also for a spoiler tag, but for me it's not so much about shielding myself from seing spoilers, but about me having the ability to shield others.

Anyway, I don't see what harm it could do. Creating a spoiler tag in a forum such as this should take no more than 15-30 minutes of work. I know cause I've done it. So it's not like Ken's development time with Profiler would be significantly impacted.

I really don't understand you sometimes. A spolier tag would be added by the person who was making the post if he thought what it was saying would spoil it for others.

Perhaps I give more credit to others, but I think people would know a spoiler when they see it.

Again while I understand the thoughts behind the request, it seems useless. As I noted some users might consider a spoiler to be anything after the Opening credits. Would a discussion of John Williams' musical description of the shark in Jaws be considered a spoiler, by some it certainly seems like it could be.

I really don't think that anyone would consider talking about the music in a film would be a spoiler.

It also occurs to me that people who really enjoy and love film could care less about spoilers, one way or the other. I finally got to see Dark Knight and the information that was revealed in that thread did not change my enjoyment of that film one whit.

Some people just want all input into their life controlled and are unwilling to take responsibility for anything they do on their own...including what they choose to read or not.

I think it would be a little unfair for some to be excluded from threads on this site because there might be a spoiler one day.

Lets all take a little responsibility for our actions - which actually includes the poster as well as the reader.

Trying to bait James now since I didn't bite? He only stated a fact regarding who posted what. He never said anything about how you voted or if you did vote. He only stated you were posting against the request, which you were (and still are).

Precisely, pauls and WHY does it need to involve ANY kind of adjustment to the website by Ken.

As for your comment about music, I won't pretend to speak for ALL users, I can see where it could be entirely possibl;e for someonme who is really into the music of a film, that a discussion of the textural references could represent a spoiler.

No, it's not. Because the spoiler may not be posted by the topic starter. In which case we would ALL have to put "possible spoilers" in our topic names just in case someone else posts one.

Might I suggest everyone just leave it in Ken's hands at this point. We don't have to "convince" any one person, except Ken that the suggestion has merit.

The community has told Ken they are in favor of it and have given numerous examples of how it works in other forums. If Ken want's to add it, he will (and most of us would be grateful) if he doesn't want to add it that's his call. Many of us will continue to avoid threads and have our movie discussions elsewhere. Not a big deal either way.

So we all just try and decide what is a spoiler and is not. And IF I don't think it is a spoiler, north and you do, then what. Someone has to decide what constitutes a spoiler and at what point it is no longer a spoiler...if it is always a spoiler that certainly cuts down on the ability to discuss the merits of discussing the works of Sir Alfred Hitchcok's Vertigo, which was filmed nearly 50 years ago, or Citizen Kane because <gasp> we would not want to spoil it for someone. Give me a break.

SPOILER ALERT
Scarlett loses Rhett in the end.

I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense.
Only one person decides if it's a spoiler or not - the poster - they're the one who'd be using the tags.
