I think the leap from 2 stars to 3 is significantly harder than the leap from 1 star to 2.  So for four stars - Ken's not kidding, you should be on the payroll.

I've been working on three stars for what seems like forever.  I can't even imagine getting 4 stars.

For awhile there, I was averaging 30+ posts with green arrows ongoing for a few months after I got my 2nd star and now I'm hovering around half that.  Still two stars.  I've given up looking forward to it, figure it'll show up when it shows up.

Kinda like the next beta.

Hi Mediadogg,

1.02 works like a charm.  I successfully changed the locality of 77 DVDs using your tool.  I also found out I had a lot more from France than I had originally thought.  Since dupes are left in the record once the tool has run, I suggest others who want to make use of it do the following :

Use BulkEdit as instructed to import CVS file (mine was from DVDSpot, but no reason any CVS wouldn't work)
Click the button in DVDProfiler to "Refresh Updated Profiles"
The majority of your DVDs will hit, I had about a 75% success rate.
Manually flag DVDs which don't have profiles (very easy to see since they also don't have DVD Release Date info in that column, so they stick out like sore thumbs) and which were bought in the same country.  For me, that meant selecting all no-profile DVDs purchased in Canada.
Run BulkEdit again.  Select Locality (*).  Select Load - Flagged Profiles.
Click on the Locality column within BulkEdit to select it.  Select Multi-Copy.  In the dialog box, look at "Tool2:For Currently Selected Column".  Type in the Locality you want to change (for me, I put in "United States").  In the Replace With box, put in the new Locality (I put in "Canada").
Click Find and Replace All.  Click Finished to exit Multi-Copy, then File - Save Validated Changes.

At that point, you will be returned to DVD Profiler and you will have dupes of each one of the records you just ran Multi-Copy against.  The easiest way to resolve the dupes is to once again click "Refresh Updated Profiles" which will download all profiles for corrected localities.

Now manually go through your list, and only select dupes with no profile.  It's easy because all dupes are one on top of the other, and one has a nice cover image and the other does not.  Also, all you have just added are still flagged, so just look for flags.  Once you have selected only profiles you want to remove, then Collection - Flagged - Remove from Collection.

At the end, you will have a profile for each of your DVDs with no dupes.  I ran this whole procedure twice, once for Canadian locality DVDs, once for France.  It corrected 77 DVDs and successfully added their profiles to my DVD Profiler.

Thaknks,
DD.

@ Rooster6975:

To me, this kind of post is priceless. No amount of stars can compare (Edit: but I'll gladly take'em and a bit overwhelmed by the generosity of my peers - really). Thanks for taking the time to do it. And I'm sure you are on the way to yours ...

@all (Edit: trying to limit my posts): thanks for the kind words. Somewhat surprised by it all myself. If there was "divine intervention" ... thanks also.
Thanks for your support.

too bad we need more dvd sites it keeps DVD Profiler on it toes. If ken had no one to beat he may become a slacker.

Being a slacker is not really a bad thing work for Marty McFly in back to the future.

Congratulations mediadogg!  Well deserved.  And I agree about Ken reading the forums.  He's there, you just can't see him.

...Good news: it basically works. In 13 minutes I got 569 profiles, 19 ordered and 550 owned. Excel claims there are 573 (so, 4 missing). Reviews showed up in the "Notes" field OK, complete with CR/LF. Detailed review of Andy Griffith show was in tact (and damned funny!  )...

I'm updating profiles on the imported data as I type this.  A little (OK, a lot) confusing at first, but I think I've got it going on...

No complaints, just heads up & suggestions:

I should have caught this from your Good news post, DVDSpot Wishlist discs are pulled in to Profiler as ordered.  (Not a big deal, of course, but if you're "under the hood" again...)

owned_custom text field associated with purchase -> Retailer Web Site is kind of a waste, cause it gets overwritten by the Purchase place update.  Any way it could be appended to the end of the Notes?

Thanks. Since I control the purchase place update, I could prevent the overwrite, or would it still be better in Notes? Either way is equally easy to do. (On second thought - I' not sure - let me mess with it a bit).

Regarding the collection type, this is what I think I have coded:

IF owned_date=present AND owned=0 then Profile is put into Ordered
IF owned_date=present AND owned=1 then Profile is put into Owned
Otherwise Profile is put into Wish List

If you can tell me whether this is correct and how to fix it, I will check the actual code. Again, a simple matter to fix this one, as soon as I verify how to distinguish Ordered from Wishlist using the DVDSpot data.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'd put it at the end of Notes.  It's freeform data; that's the only place for it. (Retailer Web Site doesn't even show in the profile as an editable field, does it?)

None of my Wishlist discs on DVDSpot have owned dates.  They're all: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

I don't think you can distinguish Ordered from Wishlist with the fields in the CSV.  DVDSpot must have other, unexported fields, that record that.  Owned date is not required for a DVD to be owned.  The only thing I can think of that makes sense is:

IF owned=1 then Profile is put into Owned
IF source<>"" AND owned=0 then Profile is put into Ordered
Otherwise Profile is put into Wish List

rating (0-50) is divided by 5 and mapped to Review-Movie

Ratings are not coming over correctly; they show as DVD Review and the numbers don't jibe:

50 > 5.5
40 > 4.5
35 > 4
10 > 1.5

I'll poke around more tomorrow; I'm sleepy.
