Iwould use the CA for it as that tells us the ACTUAL film credit, though it may not really have any significance.

Okay.

So if we're agreed that J./D./Dawodu is the way forward..

Do I still use 'Credited As' J.D. Dawodu or is this unnecessary?

Neil

I would just enter it J./D./Dawodu and not use the credited as

Agreed.

For what it's worth, IMHO yes the name should be J./D./D as the fullstop between initials normally indicate a break in the name.

I also thought the function & design behind the "Credited As" was to indicate when you have a known actor who uses more than one name in credits...ie Courtney Cox Arquette whose early work was credited as Courtney Cox...so would have the credit:-
Courtney Cox Arquette (Courtney Cox)

or am I the only person who sees it that way?

Yup.  That's the way I see it also.  Again, using the CA function for this is a complete waste of time.

Since I'm not the only one who sees how the CLT should be used why are people trying to use it to determine how to Parse Names as that is one thing the CLT will not do (the way it is at this date (just incase Ken alters it to act differently later)).

Thanks for all your help on this. I have resubmitted my contribution using the name as J./D./Dawodu and not bothering with a Credited As.

For the record, even though the issue seems to have been settled, I am in agreement with hal's agreement...Forget's too.

That would be a helpful alteration, that's for sure. Would stop the First/Middle/Last names getting confused with First//Middle Last if they are identically spelt.

Only useful for those who are building FamilyTreeProfiler. For film credits , it really means nothing.

Useful in DVDProfiler too...
If you click on a name in the cast list on DVDProfiler, for arguments sake let's say Anthony//Wong Chau-Sang - it comes up with a list of movies with the actor 'Anthony Wong Chau-Sang' in it. Only problem is, if he has been credited as Anthony/Wong/Chau-Sang in any films then they won't come up, even though they should. This is another problem I'm trying to fix.

So, as far as I can see, it would be a very helpful addition.

Yes, I will. As soon as the current R2 contribution has been accepted, I'll make the change.

J./D./Dawodu...unless proven otherwise.

Another one supporting this... the CLT is inappropriate to use in this case as the J.D.// entries shouold never have been there in the first place, without proof, and going with somehitng against the Rules just because it's more common is not a good idea IMO!

I've added a new filter to standardize initials.  It will operate to move the second initial to the middle name if there is no middle name entered.  If a change is made that affects the displayed name, the Credited As field will be set, if not already set, and if not an uncredited member.

So:

J.D./Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu [J.D. Dawodu]
J D/Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu [J D Dawodu]
J. D./Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu

Not affected by this filter:
JD/Dawodu
J/Dawodu
J.D./Bob/Dawodu
