Does anyone else feel that the "Contribution Notes" field is too small? Especially now - with the new art crew being added, I find that the notes get cut short when they exceed a certain length.

I know that you can get the whole view by pressing the small "View Contribution Notes" envelope, but I'm not at all convinced that all voters are aware of this possibility, and so in my opinion the notes should be shown as a whole just by pressing "Evaluate".

What say ye?

No objection here.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I've received (and given) several no votes because of that. Needles to say, I agree

Definitely agree. I wasn't aware that the forum view of the notes could hold more info than the contribution screen until a couple of months ago.

What she says makes sense, in theory, but even I try to keep it concise but run out of room, especially with common names and such. If I don't fully explain it I have no doubt I'll get no votes...

I think Gerri is 100% right. Some contribution notes are far too long. And those who vote "no" just because they think notes are not explicit enough just love to play school teachers (except for spelling mistakes where school teachers are against rules...  )

I absolutely agree, I find most Contributors to be lazy in their communication with others , short sweet and say next nothing of meaning now or or in the future when their notes are nothing more than a reference point. Kind of like some posts around here.

Movieman is correct, Gerri is right THEORY and I sympathize, but only in theory. In actual function, no, sorry.

especially with common names

Especially for tv series. If you have about 6 or so people to do common names/credited as in your notes it's basically impossible to include all the notes, including links to sites that provide some proof they are the same person for each and every one of them, for all of them.

I usually try to provide about 3 links for each credited as/common name. So just with the regular notes about the changes made then plus all the CLT results and links. There isn't enough room to show all of them.

So I agree with the op, longer contribution notes is needed.

I also agree that we need to keep the notes as short as possible (concise and to the point).

But with the need for documentation regarding common names and birth years, as well as the need to verify the art crew with prescise functions, I just don't see that the existing field is big enough.

Note; When I first started adding the new art crew i didn't specify their functions in the notes, but after a while (and after some helpful PM's) I absolutely see the need to do so as long as we're not allowed to contribute specific crew roles.

I feel this a much to casual approach to the question I raise here Surfeur.

This has to do with accurately explaining the changes you make for future references, and as such, IMHO, there can be no "too long" contribution notes.

And, as already stated, the complete notes are available by pressing the small "View Contribution Notes" envelope, and as such they should be made available when pressing the "Evaluate" link as well IMO.

This just happened to me on my most recent contribution. I thought to check after reading this thread and sure enough...last common name was chopped off mid sentence when giving documentation.  I too try to provide 3 sources and CLT results and with the current contribution notes length limit, my 4th common name is only viewable to those who bother checking the full contribution notes thread.

So yeah, I agree with the extension of the contribution notes viewable when evaluating.

I absolutely agree.
The worst part is that there is not even a warning that part of the text will be cut out, so you won't even notice it, sometimes.

As someone who luckily did know and had to use the method to find the resons for a cover change recently (it was legit but no explanation was visible in the normal window) I agree with this.
