Okay, rules state "If the Box Set has a rating, use it in the profile. If it does not, use NR as the rating. Exception: If any disc in the set is rated Adult, list the set as Adult" - okay, that's cool, understand all that part...

What do you do in the case of a dual-movie pack where the two films have different ratings and both ratings are listed on the package?

I would figure to list NR, since the only exception listed is for Adult and the films in question are PG & PG-13.  After all, its not the box set that has the rating - it's the films within it.  However, another user has indicated their opinion to be that it should be listed as PG-13, since that is the higher rating on the box.  I figured I'd ask around and try to get a consensus here.

Thoughts?

Personally, I've been listing all my boxes as NR locally.  At the end of the day, I can't actually watch a box, so the rating is kind of pointless.

If the movie ratings are listed on the cover, those are the ratings for the Movies, not the entire box set.  Usually, the only time the "Box Set" has a rating is when all the movies are rated the same.

If there are different ratings for the movies, i would rate it NR for the box set

I agree with Charlie.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

To try and give a little background on the thought process. Movies are rated NOT Boxsets, however, with Hollywood it is entirely possible that somewhere a Boxset exists with a Rating, as Charlie noted it would probably be because all the films were the same eating themselves, so...

I have a box set with all four Lethal Weapon movies and the box has two FSK ratings at the bottom. FSK-16 for part 1 and 3 and FSK-18 for part 2 and 4.

Since you can buy the box only if you're 18 the box set profile contains the FSK-18 rating. So I agree with Giga Wizard.

The highest rating should be used for the box. After all the rating should be indicating for who the box is suitable for. If it has a dvd rated 12 and one 16, the 12 year old should not have access to the box. (that is what ratings are for?)

I agree with that.

Not in the UK; the set is always rated as the highest of its contents so that people who buy the set can't purchase something in abox that they couldn't legally purchase separately. Personally, therefore, thats the way I feel it 'should be'.

I think that a rule change could be discussed and I have no objections to that, but the present rule is pretty clear to me: the absence of rating on the box means "NR" in DVD Profiler (except when there is an Adult disc in the set).

I agree with you Pongo, absolutely. The problem is that many of our friendsare more interested in interpretation than in saying Ok we here is something that needs a Rules mod. End result...arguments.

Box sets are rated in the UK at least. That's why the rule was written the way it is. That input came from our UK committee members.

Having re-read the rules, I would agree with marking it NR if there is no actual rating on the box set. I think the problem some people may have is that it goes against what their country does so may have difficulty understanding it.

Bus as i undertsnad there is a rating on the box, 2 even, one for each movie. In which case in think you should use the highest rating.

BTW i see a lot of boxset which have a rating or even more rating on the package so it's not very uncommon. I always use the highest rating on the cover. In my collection i have for example a dutch Humphrey Bogart Collection rated 12, the contents however have one 12, two 6 and 3 AL ratings. If the raing is on the box it should be used.

From what's been said, the US seems to treat it differently to other countries like the UK & by the sound of it, the Netherlands. It sounds like they have 2 ratings for the movies & then potentially another for the box set itself. So although over here if a box set had 15 & 18 rated films, the box set would get an 18, the equivalent rating wouldn't automatically be applied to the box set in America.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Basically, the set in question is the two films Gettysburg & Gods and Generals packaged together.  Gettysburg is rated PG, Gods and Generals PG-13.  Both ratings appear on the package for the respective movies.  The box set/package itself does not have a rating.

I have another set like this, which packages the movies Alien Nation and Enemy Mine.  The parent (package) profile is listed as NR, while the child profiles are R and PG-13 respectively.  This was how I had set up a revised profile of the Gettysburg/Gods and Generals set.  I got one yes vote and one no vote, for the reason given above, so I've withdraw the contribution as of right now, and wanted to see what others thought before resubmitting because either way it needs to change, since the current profile lists the rating as PG, and that is not the higher of the two ratings - I just want to know which way I should set it up.

Maybe I should have set up a poll ...
