Those are Featurettes. Some examples of Bonus Feature Films are:

    * Previous movie versions, example "Ben-Hur: Four-Disc Collector's Edition" which includes the 1925 version.
    * Companion movie bonuses, example "Season of the Witch" which includes "There's Always Vanilla" from the same director.

Where does a Blu-ray of a film and the bonus DVD of the same film, with the same cast and crew fall in, it does not.

As I said... it says SOME examples... In other words those are not the only examples as such. so there is nothing there to not allow a DVD version as a bonus to a Blu-Ray version.

When you have a DVD version of a movie as a bonus to a Blu Ray Version of the move... does it fit in what the rules say it has to be?

The rules say any feature film that is included as part of the bonus material for a single release. So if it is even the same film... it is a feature film... There is no exception for it being the same film... so yes it is allowed per Rules.

If it's the same film, it's not bonus material is it? How is this any different from the examples I provided?

The back of the Blu-ray case says it is as it is listed as one of the 'Bonus Features'...and, as was said earlier, if you don't want it linked to your profile, don't download it.  I honestly don't see what the big deal is.

It is a feature film given to you as a bonus with the Blu Ray version... that is all that is required by the rules to be able to make a bonus feature film profile.

When you go to the rules for bonus feature film... no where in those rules does it say it can't be the same movie.

And why can't widescreen on one side of a dvd and pan and scan on the other be one? because it says in the rules it must be considered a bonus feature to be done. I have never seen either the widescreen or pan and scan version ever listed as a bonus. At least not on any of the DVDs I have.

I agree... if you don't want it... you just don't download it. no harm no foul.

Geez, with one stroke of the delete key, your problem goes away.  Would that all profiles could be so easily fixed locally.

This looks like a non-issue to me.

I'm not sure whether or not I would have them locally but I wouldn't vote against them.

If each cut of the film had it's own disc, I would include it as a bonus feature film.  The fact that someone hasn't done so doesn't mean it isn't allowed.

+1
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The film whose title is listed on the cover is not a bonus film. Full stop. You can argue that it's a bonus feature if presented in several ways, but it certainly is not a bonus film.

By that logic Ben Hur, which is one of the examples in the rule, doesn't qualify as the 1925 version has it's title listed on the cover.

You may not like it, but let's be realistic for a minute.  As was pointed out earlier, these are being contributed and approved on a regular basis.  Based on what I have seen in the forums, and the voting, that is how the users want it.  The genie is already out of the bottle, it isn't going back in.

Ace:

You I believe are missing the point. These new BD's include a separate DVD of the same film. Many times it is a unique DVD with a different Disc ID from any of the standalones. If it is not accounted for in some form (child profiles) then any inventory relative to DVD counts are off, since we cannot check both BD and DVD, like we could when HD/DVD combos were around. It is simply about trying to deal with correct data relative both DVDs and BlD's for inventory purposes, nothing more. Including it as a Feature does nothing for inventorying. As has been noted it's not a big deal, if you don't like the idea, it is a simple matter to delete it from your collection. Given the reasons for it, In have no problem with it at all. I want of count of my DVDs and my Blu-Rays relative to Feature films, which is what we are dealing with here.

I f Ken gives the ability to designate BD/DVD Combos in the future then we can revisit this issue and see what might be appropriate, but that's tomorrow or next Monday , right now we can't designate BD/DVD Combo sets and this causes a problem that is currently best addressed through Child Profiles. The reason this is the case was when 3.51 was released  BD Combos were not on the horizon.
