What about the corollary for movies with different versions on different discs?

Yes, I'm interested to know this, too. I have several two-disc-sets with two different cuts of the same movie on two separate discs. In some cases, the packaging does *not* declare any of them to be the "main feature" and the other to be included as a "bonus feature" - they seem to be treated equally. I do want to track both discs somehow, because they've got different running times, different audio tracks, subtitles etc. Until now, I've opted to enter them as a box set, with an empy parent profile and two child profiles, because if I had used the parent-plus-one-child approach, I'd have to decide which one to to profile as a parent, and which one to profile as a child. And I wouldn't know how to decide that.

Bottom line: when this concerns a 2-disc-set with two cuts of the same movie, it's often not clear which of the discs is the "main" one, making it pretty hard to parent-plus-one-child approach. Any thoughts?

I woulkd be interested in this also.

If a dvd purchase includes the theatrical release on one side and the unrated release on the other side, then technically we would have 2 different movies.

Would this be treated as a bonus feature?

Now obviously widescreen and fullscreen of same movie would not.

Also how about a movie like Kung Fu Panda with it's bonus disc "The Curious Five"?

I don't know that I want to track these and I think the rules imply that we don't.  Under the rating section, the rules tell us to use the NR rating when an unrated version is included on the disc.  We wouldn't need to do that if we were allowed to create a separate profile for each version.

That would fall under the 'Companion movie bonuses' example that is listed in the rules.

I agree that based on the rules we don't track these.

However some people may want to track these and can do so locally as T!M mentioned he does. So everyone is (or should be) happy.

If the profiles were available for download I might consider it, but I personally am not going to put in all the work of making those profiles locally

Well, mine are... I don't see how the rules prohibit this (there aren't even "unrated" versions in play here), and as I explained: I couldn't profile just one of them, because in many cases, I simply wouldn't know which disc to profile, and which disc to ignore.

Ah, but the Rules do tell you what to do in such cases, tim...very clearly. They explain that for such releases we use the LONGEST release data.

Knowing you I am sure you will say that only refers to Runtime, but why would yoiu use the longest Runtime and then tie it to data from a shorter version.

Once again this is about the same film in TWO totally different formats in the same packaging.

Where do they say that? All I could find was this:

Quoting the rules:
Quote:
For branching titles, or those with multiple versions (e.g. Theatrical and Director's Cut) on the same disc, use the longest running time.

Note the specific "on the same disc" condition. That is decidedly not what I was talking about: I was talking about two-disc-sets, with two separate versions of the same film on two separate discs. This specific condition in the rules actually implies that if they're not on the same disc, we apparently have to create separate profiles for each disc.
