Well I actually didn't read the other comments.. To make it short and sweet.. Blu Ray has Sound with a way higher Bitrate than HD TV or DVD.. But unless you have a soundsystem that costs at least 1000 bucks or so you won't notice a difference.. If you get something better though the difference is quite noticable.. My system cost about 10k and the difference between a DVD and the same movie on BD is like Night and Day..

Me personally I care at least as much about the sound as I do about the picture

In order to take full advantage of the HD sound on BD movies you must have the proper and I must say High End equipment to play it. I have such a system and I personally can't hear the difference but my wife & son say they can. A good surround sound system with decent speakers are all I need.

pffff. High end Isn't always where it's at. I have yet to upgrade my speakers from a moderately priced speaker system, and even my wife heard the difference. If you can afford high end, by all means do it, but don't let someone discourage you saying high end is the only way.

Even with a moderately priced system, there is a discernible difference.  HDTV does not have the range that BD has and definitely better than DVD.

The difference becomes more pronounced, when you start to upgrade your equipment to higher quality and more capable system.  Of course that means the right BD player and the right receiver and the right speakers.

A lot depends on your perceptions.

If your equipment can decode lossless audio signals like Dolby True HD, and DTS HD Master Audio you will hear a difference !
