How do you get the BY for an actor when third party sources aren't allowed any more for entering BYs? Two BY contributions just got declined because: "An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules."

In the contribution notes I got at least three sources for every actor under the same name and also several sources with the BYs. So, what is wrong then?

The two contributions were for:
Mr. Skeffington EAN 7321900673051 UK
The Petrified Forest EAN 7321932652260 The Netherlands

John Alexander, there are at least three different actors under that same name.

Generally speaking yuo need more than one font, if you have only IMDB sometime is considered insufficient.

I had the same problem trying to contribute John Sullivan a short while ago. It seems the best way to get it accepted now is to post the BY information into the 'List of Accepted Birth Years with Documentation' thread on this forum and get it accepted first...

I added per person at least three sources in the notes...

Okay, I thought it worked the other way around. First get the BY accepted by the screeners and then post it in the 'List of Accepted Birth Years with Documentation' thread. I will try it that way then, thanks.

It does work the other way around, which is why the thread is called "List of Accepted Birth Years with Documentation."  We are working on the honor system, but the BY has to have been accepted in a contribution to be included in the list.

I don't know what your notes looked like, so can't be specific, but it helps if you list the other actor as well.

In your contributions, you provided many links to sources for birth years, but you did not specify enough information about the actors themselves in the notes. In your notes, you should include which movies and or roles each person was in. You don't have to list them all, but you need to list something. "Actor X in movie Y is not the same as the producer of movie Z who also has name X", and also provide links to support both of their birth years, or at least the birth year you are adding.

Thanks Gerri, that is what I meant, you just explained it better.

These threads could probably be avoided if the screeners left notes such as Gerri provided instead of vague, generic comments.

Or if a description of the requirements for getting a birth year accepted were added to the rules. This thread is probably being seen by no more than a few dozen users - and as a result, the question keeps coming up...
