In the episode of Fawlty Towers the name is actually spelled as "André Marrane", at least in the credits of the German DVD release.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

Not in the credits of my UK copy:

It's unfortunate that some localities insist on re-making the credits, and introducing new mistakes while doing so. I own a few of those as well, and I hate it with a vengeance. I'm trying to replace them with another locality's version ASAP, one that does have the original credits in tact. Still, there's not much that can be done about it, so if anything, both name variants should be listed here. Luckily, in this particular case, it won't affect the balance much.

I'll never understand why we refuse to correct obvious mistakes. Invelos database is  the only one I know that breaks volontarily all the functions for which it is made (searching, linking, sorting, filtering...)

Keep in mind, that mostly the signs ´` are not written when you write all in Capital Letters. So it is credited perhaps ANDRE MARANNE and when you write it in your Credits with Capital and Small letters it will be André Maranne. That is exaclty a problem when you do French films, where now to put the signs and where not.

We're not interested whether accents SHOULD be there or not, only whether they actually ARE THERE or NOT. The Rules fully support this.

Not the rules. Only a "clarification" ( )  Ken made several years ago, and which is lost somewhere in the forum. Ken never corrected the rules to introduce this point during those years. In fact rules say  "list names exactly as they are in the credits", so following the rules, we should not remove accents existing "inside" capitals. Names in credits are without spelling mistake, and what we enter in the database have spelling mistakes, so it is not "exactly" as they are in credits.

Can we please stop with the accent debates, it has been settled and we really do not need every common name thread that has an accented name to rehash it all over again and again and again.

I just reacted to an affirmation from GreyHulk which is wrong. Rules say the contrary of what Ken asked to do. This is the main reason why this problem is still debated.

The clarifications from Invelos are part of the rules, maybe not the rules page.  But clarifications to those rules

Well go debate it someplace else and stop derailing common name threads where people are trying to do what is necessary, the community as a whole is tired of it.  The horse is dead you can stop beating it now

I have not began this discussion. If some members are tired, they should stop writing wrong statements. Without Greyhulk's post and your two ones, the problem would have stopped after Swissfilm's very wise remark, without any discussion..
