I was hoping this name had been done already, as he's been in bloody everything! But a search provided nothing

So here we go, is the common name Luis Guzmán (186 titles) or Luis Guzman (141 titles)?

The current title lists, as you can see, are pretty much identical. It is possible he has the accent in some versions and not others, but not for all of them (I hope!)

I am sorry if this hijacks your thread... as I hope I am reading too much into it. but before Ken closed THIS THREAD he said...

Quoting Ken Cole:
Quote:
It's "Common Name" not "Correct Name" "Proper Name" "Given Name" "Favorite Name" or any other definition.  The CLT results determine the common name.  If incorrect entries are causing the results to skew, the results will shift when the corrections are made.  The CLT pulls from the Credited As field only, and not the common name.

If you spot a user who is submitting IMDB or other third party data in violation of their policies, be sure to vote it down and/or let us know via ticket.  If you note a user continuing to do this, open a ticket.  If we spot a pattern, they'll be permanently banned from contributions quickly.

See what I put in bold... With him saying that today... it sounds like he is wanting us to go strictly by the CLT until there is enough corrections done to change it.

Ken... if you see this... tell me I am reading too much into this... and threads like this to prove the CLT is wrong is still ok.

You're right, it can be read that way. I certainly hope Ken didn't intend to overrule his previous comment that if we can show the CLT to be wrong we can submit appropriately. I really don't like the idea of deliberately submitting wrong data simply because it agrees with the CLT. And I can see someone like Tim hitting the roof!

Yup... that is the problem... hopefully we can get Ken to clarify... as the way I read it... we would now go strictly by the CLT.

I think such threads are a good way to have a look again on some profiles and correct mistakes that are made. And the correcting will change the CLT, so that the common name gets correct. (hopefully)

But the results are as always a work of the users. So I'm always hoping as much users as possible work together.

I certainly won't ever resort to deliberately submitting wrong data, no. Sorry, just won't do it. If the common name is supposed to be the most-credited form, then I'll always do my best to use the most-credited form - not the form dictated by the batch of IMDb-data in our database.

Mr. Guzman is an interesting case, because the numbers are so close, but I believe the accentless form will win out eventually. Like with Zoë Saldana, though, things are being complicated because IMDb-mined data still regularly makes its way into the database, and even one incorrect IMDb-mined profile eliminates the CLT "weight" of fifty correct profiles for the same title. Anyway, here are some credits I can confirm:

Luis Guzmán:
- Confidence
- Frasier: The Tenth Season (ep. 'Enemy at the Gate')
- Pluto Nash

Luis Guzman:
- Family Business
- The Hard Way
- Miami Vice: Season Two (different roles in two eps. 'The Prodigal Son' and 'Free Verse')
- Out of Sight
- School for Scoundrels
- Welcome to Collinwood

Yes, you are.

I've clarified the post.

Ideally, the focus should be on making sure the Credited As field matches the credit.  If that's the case, then the CLT results will be correct - no matter what the common name is.

And to emphasize my earlier point, if a user has submitted mined data, try PMing them and letting them know their mistake.  If they persist, please open a support ticket.  We received several reports yesterday and handed out several warnings.

In these cases, users will receive one warning.  If they persist, their account will be permanently banned from contributions and contribution voting.
