Per comments made in this thread how should cast/crew credits be counted for TV shows in regards to determining Common Names

Each Episode = 1 credit
I someone appears in 3 episodes in season 1 then 2 in season 2 and then 4 times in season 3 this would count as 9 credits

Each Season = 1 credit
I someone appears in 3 episodes in season 1 then 2 in season 2 and then 4 times in season 3 this would count as 3 credits

All Seasons = 1 credit
I someone appears in 3 episodes in season 1 then 2 in season 2 and then 4 times in season 3 this would count as 1 credit

Way back when, it was decided that Anthony Stewart Head's credit in Buffy should count as just one, thus making Anthony Head the common name.

Personally, I think I would go by each season, but might go for all seasons as one

Personally I can't see why we would want anything other than to know each EPISODE  someone appeared in.

If someone appears in 10 out of 22 episodes in a season I want to know this.

I personally count all seasons as one title, as long as the credit doesn't change. If it does, I simply count the other credit as one title as well (so one title for each credit).

I like each season. You can bring up the profile to check which episodes they appear in.

Each episode.

They each have their own credits and should be counted seperately.

For common name results, I would use 1 credit per season. Usually the credits are consistent throughout one season, but they may vary from season to season.

Pantheon's remark of wanting to know how many episodes a person is in, is valid. But in my opinion only for local counts. For the CLT results, I think 1 credit per season is the way to go.

It is indeed valid, but I don't think it has anything to do with the common name. (if it has, please explain how as I don't see it.)

Have made some adjustments to my first post going by some of the comments it appears i was not clear about what i meant i am talking about how should credits be counted in regards to how the common name should be determined (hence link to common name thread)

so if you have a John Smith credited in 3 films and John A. Smith credited in a TV show (5 Seasons). If you count the show as a single credit then John Smith is the common name (3 to 1) but if you count each season of the TV show as a single credit then John A. Smith is the common name (5 to 3) if you count each episode as a single credit then John A. Smith would be the common name by far.

Some time ago, I wrote this in another topic. Sorry, the pics aren't there anymore:

http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=367653&messageID=1171872#M1171872.

The pics showed credits for Married With Children, and the way they are counted by the CLT. Two posts down, Ace_of_Sevens rightfully states that:

The main reason not to show the series name in the original title field is that if peopel view by original title, they can't tell what season it is.

There needs to be a change, though. The current way of counting credits of TV-cast is not very accurate, because of the different languages in the title field. Any ideas, beside using the original title field? I'm not really favoring yet ANOTHER field, solely for the purpose of "series name".

Exactly what I was saying. I feel the episode count is irrelevant to the common name. The season count is, because I have seen people change their name from one season to the next.

I have also seen people change their name or use different versions of their names 2 or more times within a season too.

I don't know what the answer to this is. But when it comes to the credits on TV series there really isn't any rules on how they do it.

True.  That's as it should be.

TV series don't have credits.  TV seasons don't have credits.  TV episodes have credits (just like a short movie.)

My point of view is that 1 season = 1 production = 1 title. Each episode from one season is from the same production cycle and because of this should be counted as one.

In addition, since the CLT doesn't show the count for episodes, it's more practical to use seasons.
