Some additional expressions for German language credits in RED
Some remarks in GREEN

German
Director
- Regie
- Regisseur
- Ein Film von ( = a film by)
- Spielleitung (only in very very old films.)

Writing
Original Material By:
- Basierend auf [anything] von
- Nach einem/einer [anything] von
- Idee

Screenplay:
- Drehbuch
- Buch (can also be part of an OMB (Buch = book))

Writer:
- Drehbuch*
- Buch*
*if no OMB credit is listed.

Production:
Producer:
- Produzent
Executive Producer:
- Ausführender Produzent

Cinematography:
Director of Photography:
- Bildgestalter
- Bildgestaltung
Cinematography:
- Kamera
(There is indeed no difference - at least in Germany - between Director of Photography and Cinematography. "Kamera" also stands for the D.O.P. in Germany.)

Film Editing
Film Editor:
- Schnitt
- Schnittbearbeitung (Honestly I never heard that expression in Germany. Where did You find that, VirusPil???)
- Montage
- Cutter(in)

Sound:
Sound:
- Ton (Normally the Production Sound Mixer is called just "Ton" which often leads to mixups.)

Production Sound Mixer:
- Tonmeister
- Originalton
- Ton

Sound Editor:
- Tonschnitt
- Tonbearbeitung
- Toncutter
- Tonmontage

Sound Design:
- Tongestaltung

Re-Recording Mixer:
- Mischung
- Tonmischung

Art:
Production Designer:
- Ausstattung
- Szenenbild

Art Director:
- künstlerischer Leiter (I have never seen this in a German film as well. Any source, VirusPil? In very early films from the 30's and 40's there has been the expression "Künstlerische Gesamtleitung" or "Spielleitung/Spielleiter", but this was a description for the Director, not the Art Director.)
There is indeed no real difference in Germany between "Production Design" and "Art Direction". So Art Director can also be Ausstattung or Szenenbild.

Costume Design:
- Kostüme
- Kostümbild

Make-up Artist:
- Maske

Visual Effects:
- Visuelle Effekte
- Digitale Effekte
- Spezialeffekte
- Tricks
- Trickeffekte

Many thanks for the hint. Honestly I have to say, I can't remember, but I think this was added by me. Just checked the movie I think I've seen this and this was a really bad misreading. The credit was "Schnittberatung", which I don't think is a credit we track. (Really embrassing, sorry  )
-> I will remove it in the next update with your additions. Many thanks for them also.

Copied from Rapman's post, so I hope he can help explaining.

Schnittberatung could be taken as equivalent for Supervising Film Editor. But that would start a long, long discussion in this forum whether to submit it or not.  So we better leave it out.

Very useful topic. Here's my limited contribution. I'll try to make a more comprehensive list once things calm down at the office:

Japanese crew roles:
Henshuu / Hensyuu = Film Editor
Gensaku = Writing (Original material by)
Kantoku = Director
Producer (written in katakan) = Producer
Ongaku = Music (composer)
Onkyou Kantoku = Sound
Bijutsu Kantoku = Art Director
Kyakuhon = Screen writer
Satsuei Kantoku = Director of Photography

Just a remark to the bolded part: As "a film by" hasn't made it into the credit chart yet, I would leave it out for a list of direct translations.
Last time discussed:
http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=463107&PageNum=1
Shouldn't be a prohibition from me, but as a "direct translation" I think it is argueable.

Edit: And many thanks for the new additions, I'll try to update the list today.

Does somewhere a list exist in which crew jobs in different languages are listed?

I'm not the specialist for those things, so I think it would be very helpful for some users to have those assignments somewhere listed.

If nothing exists, it would be nice if you can help me and list those direct translations of our allowed crew jobs and I'll make a list of the translations of different languages in this thread.

(And please correct me if necessary)

No matter if I would add it here: if it is allowed or not has to be decided by different people.
For French, surfeur gave me these translations for Director:
- réalisateur (réalisatrice (for women))
- réalisé par
with my little French, I think these are the direct translations of Director and Directed by, the roles allowed according the credit chart.
"Un film de" and "Ein Film von" is a direct translation of "A film by", so if this is something that's allowed, it has to get ruled/decided somewhere different.

Of course, the only people who decide are the screeners.

I agree with him that those are translations for director as well. I have seen "réalisé par" used in French film credits. "Réalistateur" is the literal translation of "director", but it not often used (if at all) in actual credits. Very often we see only "un film de".
Quote:

Yes, those are the literal translations. But I thought that there is a consensus that "direct translation" is not meant to be "literal translation". We are after the typical role names usually used in non-Hollywood-films. And for French films "un film de" is often used as the only director credit.
Quote:

No, it's the literal translation.
Quote:

Where do you think this should be ruled/decided on? None of the entries in your list has been ruled/decided on. IMO the rules leave the term "direct translation" open on purpose.

Considering the problems we have to get an exhaustive list of valid roles for Hollywood only, such a list for even a few languages would be futile.

This is typically a problem (as many others) generated by a "based on credits" rule. IMO, what is important, is the answer to the question "Who directed that movie ?" and this answer has to be entered in front of Director field, without taking in consideration how this guy is or is not credited accordingly to an Invelos rule list (that is not always followed by credit makers, specially outside Hollywood).
Each time we want to stick to credits, we are facing that sort of problem. I still wonder why so many users are interested by those credits that are far less interesting to watch than the movie itself (at least for me...)

Is there an equivalent for the German credit "Bauten". Is that an old German film term for Production Design?

You are right, it definitely means "Production Design". The direct translation would be "buildings". It is a bit old fashioned but of course it counts. Thanks.

Always learning something new.
So "Bauten" aren't the people that built the set?

Edit: The online film dictionary says Art Direction for Bauten.

I hope Bauten hasn't another meaning in German, because in Dutch this word means something dirty
