I disagree with the use of 3D in the title field.

I agree that the Edition field, is used to distinguish between releases but...

Blu Ray + DVD
Blu Ray + Digital Copy
Blu Ray + Ultraviolet
Blu Ray + DVD + Ultraviolet
Blu Ray + DVD + Digital Copy

These are blazoned across the top of many packages, but we have not started using these as editions.

I think that we should wait at this point, until the next software release, to see how Ken plans to handle these releases.

So my opinion, unless in very specific situations, should use tags at this point.

Charlie

In fact, Charlie, those headers are specifically prohibited in the rules relative to edition. There may be some which might qualify as part of the title, and some which might qualify as edition. But I think for the most part using the tag system in the interim is the best answer, ken has said we will have an answer in the next release.

Which is exacly why we have profiles like "Conan" that have the issue that you cannot tell the 3D release from the 2D.  Because the only distinction of it being 3D is because of an obvious media banner (so edition cannot be used).  And it is not in the title.

The one issue I have seen in my short time here is there have been 3 or 4 threads on this requesting a clarification form Ken and no response.  Now the 3D issue has been out there since at least March 2010 since that is when they really started coming out.  Nor has it been the beta or release date of 3.8 been announced and Feb 2010 was the last release of DVDP.

We have had only snippets of what he might do, media type, video, etc...  I think all of us that have 3D would like to know at least when it will be supported and hw we should be handling it in the interrim so that fewer changes are needed to migrate the existing 3D profiles to whatever the new way would be.

Really good told. Why Ken never tells us how the new solution will look like and what we shall do in the meantime? It would be so much easier than with each new 3D release to have discussions and battles again how this should be entered.

Isn't it kind of like Paramount put Widescreen on their DVD front cover just because? If yes, was this accepted for an edition field even if it was a screen format description?

This situation reminds me of how invelos dealt with digital discs. We used to place this information in the Edition field.

Then, when invelos updated the database we removed that information from the Edition field and now tick the Digital Copy box.

Until the update occurs, the Edition field is appropriate so that one can distinguish this version of a DVD from others.

Or, look at how the community used single quotation marks to represent bold/italics in the Overview. These were contributed even though it was mentioned that bold and iitalics were be addressed in a future update.

The community does not have to wait for an update to contribute data. We have no idea when the update will occur or even if that data will guaranteed to be part of that update.

There is one major flaw in your comment, Kathy. The rules specifically forbid the data found on most Disney combos and others. Now if ken wants to change that, fine, but follow the rules. There MAY be some films that include 3D as part of the title and some for edition but these are likely rare birds.

You are correct about italics and bold face type, but like this prohibition that was spelled out in the rules. In retrospect I would handle bold and italics a little differently to make migration a little easier. Maybe italics with "a" and bold with 'a' or something similar, but hindsight is always 20/20.

This may change with the 3.2 update, but until then the edition field is correct per the rules.

Am I missing something? The latest version is 3.7.2.

She made a simple mistake, ken did the same thing. The next release will be 3.8 or higher.

Actually it was Ken who wrote 3.2. in his Feb.4, 2012 post. I just copied that from the post referenced above regarding Ken's statement:  HERE.

I will only add that it is disappointing to see Kathy advocating ignoring the rules when it is so plainly prohibited.

Please stop with the personal attacks.

6 community members stated that Edition is correct.
2 members stated this was incorrect.

Additionally it has been noted that this data has been contributed to the database and has been accepted by the screeners as being correct.

No personal attack Kathy. Get over yourself. Read the rules. It is prohibited for the type of data included on Disney films and most other combos. I didn't write it and I don't have an opinion, I can only tell you what the rules say and what you said is completely in violation of said rule.

As I said no personal attack, simple fact but I find your tone to be combative and insulting. Wow!!!!!!

I am not the one whose position is contrary to the published rule. All you have to do is say gee skip you're right, my bad. No need to get defensive and make accusations that are simple falsehoods. Use of  3D in title or edition while probably does exist it appears to be rare indeed.

Since 6 others expressed the same opinion as I did, and you felt the need to call out only me, I take that as a personal attack.

As the moderator has requested, stick to the topic at hand.

Leave me alone - I don't care to hear anything you have to say to me.  Red arrows and support tickets will be forthcoming if you persist in this harassment.

The others were wrong as well, Kathy. I pointed out that the rule prohibited what they said, after that you decided to weigh in with the same counter rule opinion. You decide to adopt a self righteous attitude...please. I was nice to you, and now this... Give me a break. You have known me long enought to know how I feel about the rules.

I even defended you relative to a user who has a history of being overly aggressive. You're welcome

You have the right to voice that you believe a rule is wrong. I have said I have no opinion. But it is still the rule. You do not have the right to take a position which some may read that you are right and the rule is wrong. This encouraging other users to ignore the rule or even rules in generally, that is how I interpreted what you said. This is my position, there was no disclaimer made by you that the rule is counter to that position and that until changed by ken the rule needs to be followed

The way I see it, if 3D is mentioned somewhere on the box, we can enter it according to the rules (either in the edition field or title field, depending on how it's mentioned)

Otherwise, we can't.

At any rate, for the time being I have locally created a 3D Blu-ray custom medium that I tick for local needs. That can't be submitted but at least it helps me out until the program update comes

Interesting take, taro. But I don't think the rule supports it. We don't do partial data for editions and most are similar to what Disney does. We don't pick and choose the data.

Your second is the only correct method til 3.8 or higher comes out. For most titles it will, for now, be only a local issue handled via the tag system. Unfortunate but true.
