Was wondering though what do you guy's use. Im needing shelving for about 800 plus.

The possibility of making my own had come to mind, but truthfully my lack of coordination and poor numeracy would make it very frustrating. Billy Bookcases i had a look at while i was dragged along unfortunately by a couple mates to Ikea last weekend. After we found out Costco was shut for Easter Sunday  Do you know how many DvD's each Billy Bookcase hold's? |

I have a mix of some other ikea stuff, which I can't remember, but isn't that good. As its 30cm deep, which does mean I can get 2 dvd's deep, but that means I'd never find things.
So, on 1 wall, I have 9 shelves I built myself from wickes, using the twin slot uprights and 130mm brackets (which I can't currently find), but others do them or 120mm which is fine. I then went along to B&Q to get the shelving board and even got them to cut it to the right length for me. So, all I had to do was screw it to the brackets.
So, I now have 1 wall, with 9 * 1.47m long shelves. Each capable of holding just over 90 standard sized keep cases.
I bought 4 uprights for my 1.47m wall and the wall is made if a plasterboard sandwich (4 layers of plasterboard only, nothing else) and it holds the weight of 100's of dvd's. The top shelf I have collectors boxes and the other 8 are all filled. | | |

| | Posted: | | | | I am generally considered a "danger to property and others" as a DIYer but I managed to put up this set of shelves within a few days (OK they were spread out days but the total hours weren't really that long), actually completed just last Saturday. Apparently they're called 'Elfa brackets" but I just knew it as slotted uprights with clip in brackets... Edit: Looks like I have something similar to ajm going by description! Though my uprghts/brackets are B&Q with shelves are Homebase... also cut to size for free. My wall is hard brick not plasterboard and I only needed 3 uprights for 175cm shelves... no weight holding problems at all; VERY solidIt's much more efficient than 'bookshelf' type units as it goes much higher and can be made to match "DVD height" spacing. Also (and even my wife agrees) not only does it hold a lot more it actually looks less intrusive into the room because it stays 'closer to the wall'. BTW, this set will hold about 850-900 titles (1 title = 1 film or 1 TV series) I reckon - there are about 750 in this picture I think using 9 shelves at 175cm long each. I could store more than 600 DvD's into a very small space with them but they begin to fall apart after a few years. |
