This thread is to determine the common name of Tom McCarthy aka Thomas J. McCarthy, a character actor who has appeared in TV and film. Are we able to call this in favor of Tom McCarthy as this guy's common name? Despite being fairly prolific, much of his work isn't available on home video and likewise doesn't appear in the database. I did see he is supposedly in a season 8 episode of Law & Order, but there is no cast assigned to that profile.

Do all three Tom McCarthies require BYs, or how do we decide which ones get them? Tom McCarthy (1966) is a cast and crewmember so his BY should prevent most of the confusion. But as far as I know, the rules state no distinction should be made in regards to cast vs. crew. So there would be 3 individuals with a confirmed common name of Tom McCarthy. Do all 3 get BYs?

EDIT: I see the sound editor Tom McCarthy does not have a known birth year. So should this Tom McCarthy be given a BY?

My primary purpose for getting to the bottom of this is I'm doing an audit of the cast for The Wire: Season 5, in which both Tom McCarthy (1966) and this Tom McCarthy appear, both playing newspaper staff members. I was the one who submitted the initial cast a few years ago and realized I hadn't done a great job back then.
