I am afraid not

First of all the title count is what determines the common name.  Profile count is only used if there is a tie in titles.

The purpose of the common name threads is to actually confirm the screen credits to override the CLT results. Since many times, because of bad data in the profiles the CLT is incorrect.

Besides Alexandra Castillo is the 1971 BY, not the 1969

Thanks Scooter for your clarification!

the problem is ...

it searches for the correct name. but it is all mixed up here. you assigned completely different people the same name. use a birth year as a distinction is the right way?

Alexandra Castillo is often credited as Alex Castillo. Ok. but the right name is Alexandra Castillo. why call here Alex Castillo (1971) and not Alexandra Castillo?

the name Alexandra Castillo is unique. and we know here gender is female. so it is easy to distinguish between Alex Castillo and Alexandra Castillo. i think it is the better way as use birth yeahr with same name.

take a look on current contribution for Traitor

this entry is false and i wanted to fix it. but i got only NO as result of this thread. we know Alex Castillo (1969) is an actor and not the right actress. and such errors will always happen because the distinction is not clear.

that is the reason why i think the result of this thread is stupid. sorry.

cheers emmeli

Hey Emmeli,

In DVD profiler we use the most credited name in the movies they play in.
The common name for actress Alex/Alexandra Castillo is Alex Castillo.
The common name for actor Alex/Alejandro Castillo is also Alex Castillo.

When there is a valid birth year for them we add it.

So actress Alex/Alexandra Castillo is Alex Castillo (1971) and Alex/Alejandro Castillo is Alex Castillo (1969).

The credits for Traitor should be Alex Castillo (1971) and not Alex Castillo (1969) or Alexandra Castillo [Alex Castillo]

Greets,
Mitch.

Sorry I misspelled the name emmeli.

It can't be a faulty database, because that is what they ask us to do.

DVD profiler uses the most common name and if the credited name in a movie is different, we add it in the credited as field.

see the result on Traitor (886975218691.5)

Alexandra Castillo was playing as Alex Castillo (1969) as Dark Haired Woman.

i know the rules. but you can see the result. i'm sure this is not the only error in database (for Alex Castillo).

what is in two or three years. she is possibly credited in further movies only as Alexandra Castillo. we willl use this thread to change the common name? i dont think so! therefore it is better to distinguish now. it is so easy in my eyes. especially since we are talking about man and woman.

NO it is not a must.  Quote what you feel needs quoted

LOL - That was good

In the profiles there is a "Name" field and a "Credited As" field.  When the common name is different that the screen credit, the common name is placed in the "Name" field and the actual screen credit is placed in the "Credited As".

If everyone does what is asked in the rules the database will not be faulty.  However not everyone does what they are asked LOL.  But these common name threads are a point of correcting faulty data by trying to find out the true common name.  Not all names go through the common name thread process.  Only those that are in question, and it looks like the CLT may be wrong.  The CLT is used the majority of the time.

But the rules state to determine a common name you use the CLT.  However if you can document the CLT is incorrect that can be used.  And these threads are what is used to document that,

ok ... we need some practice.

my profiles:

2012

credited as: Alexandra Castillo (Dark Haired Woman)

field name: Alexandra Castillo
field credited as: empty

Traitor

credited as: Alex Castillo (Paris Reporter)

field name: Alexandra Castillo
field credited as: Alex Castillo

no birth year needed and i can take a look on every date on this profiles and know the right actor/actress is Alexandra Castillo and she is female. i do not have a look at this thread to look at the right actor/actress. and that is the problem if the correct name is even clearly.

but i know. is better and easier to put a birth year on it. then no one knows who is what now. but so are the rules. whether man or woman ...

And Marion Robert Morrison is often (for not saying "always") credited as John Wayne.
Does that mean now that I should use Marion Robert Morrison for all John Wayne credits??

We do NOT trace "real names" for this database!
We trace the name under which a person is known.
And in most cases this will be "Most Credited" variant.

There are some cases where this may lead to strange results and/or the requirement of a birthyear, but if you ask me I prefer the Invelos system over the IMDb system (with names that appear nowhere except in the fantasy of the creator of those names) any time of the day.

And "Yes" it is a known problem that the CLT gives incorrect results whenever name-duplicties are involved. To sort those out is one of the reasons for this kind of threads.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

No you are not, but to have good data in a database, data rules need to be created and followed.  So unless the rules change the data has to be put in the online database that way.  But the rules only govern contributions to the online (shared) database.  What people do to their local DB's is their own concern.

You will find that there will probably be many rules you do not agree with, but for the online contributions they must be followed.  You will have to decide for yourself which changes you keep in your local database and never contribute, and what rules you are ok with in your local.
