Probably one of the largest ones that has never been tackled. Looking to officially determine the "common name" for Lon Chaney/Lon Chaney Jr./Lon Chaney, Jr./Creighton Chaney. I know it seems to be a generally accepted unwritten rule to simply use Lon Chaney, Jr. to distinguish him from his father, but if you actually look, the number of times he's actually credited that way is extremely low. A pipe dream I know, but I'd like to get the two sorted apart from each other in the system once and for all. I know we've all got gripes about the Birth Year system, but since it's the only way we have to officially separate them (with the actual system), we'll probably need to go that route. As always, any help determining credits will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

I've removed Lon Chaney (Sr.) from the titles as there's no question to his "common name" and I've removed all compilations, boxsets, etc. etc. and simply listed the titles contained within those compilations, boxsets etc. (so no titles such as 3 Classics of the Silver Screen which contain a film in the set unless it's the only profile in the system for a film). Here are the titles I was able to pull from the CLT. If anyone sees any double titles (aka titles or whatnot) or something I've missed, please, let me know!

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The Colgate Comedy Hour 3/11/51 (or possibly 1/7/51) - LON CHANEY

I have a different DVD than "Abbott & Costello: 2 Hour Colgate," but the above is, from what I have been able to discover, the only episode on which Mr. Chaney appeared. My other cast info matches that release.

Thanks guys! For such a surprisingly long list of credits, we managed to confirm a "common name" within only a couple of days.

With only 28 titles left to confirm that are in the system, Lon Chaney definitely becomes the common name we're looking for here with 51 confirmed credits (so far). The next closest, Lon Chaney, Jr. could only hit 42 titles if all of the rest of the unconfirmed credits go his way.

Looks like a birth year will be needed to distinguish father from son. I'll look up the appropriate information and post it in the Confirmed Birth Year thread before submitting, and I'll let you know when the contributions go through (at this point, it should only take a month or so...  ).

Thanks to everyone for their help.

If anyone else has any credits to confirm, please feel free to do so and I'll continue to update the list as necessary.

*Edit*
Both Birth Years Submitted on September 21st, 2013 - Current Status: Reviewing
Will Update When Approved

The Abbott & Costello Show: Who’s on First is also that same episode of The Colgate Comedy Hour:  the announcer gives the opening that says Colgate, then afterwards says "and now, The Abbott & Costello Show."  (Sorry; didn't notice it in the list until now.)
