Thanks for reviewing my collection.

No problem.

Many thanks for your suggestions too; I have read Day of the Triffids - many years ago, but have never even considered watching the film... I may have to give it a go after your recommendation.

As for Dr Jekyll, (and also as for many of the iconic horror characters) there are so many different versions I needed a good bench-mark, as you have recommended the 1920's version... I may start there!

And again, many thanks! All we need now is for more people to join in ... instead of bickering about moderation...  as I can see this thread becoming 'lost' like so many other promising ones...

For "Triffids" I've not seen the movie (yet), but the miniseries is brilliantly executed. There's a new miniseries airing in the UK later this year too. I think the 1920s version of Jekyll is the best I've seen (still need to watch the 1941 version). There's a two-pack with the 1932/1941 versions that is well priced and worth checking out. The recent BBC "reimagining" was exceptionally good. Such a shame Moffatt isn't writing more.

Really like the idea of this thread!

bizarre_eye: (Not much of a horror fan, but I'll do my best  )

Best:  (Lots of movies I absolutely loved, hard to pick just 3)
The Matrix- Still one of my all time favorite films. I still remember that feeling of absolute awe when leaving the theaters. Very good movie.
Fight Club- David Fincher's best in my opinion. And it's one of the few movies that has a "twist" that I continue to enjoy watching again and again.
Anything Family Guy- The show is hillarious. Nuff said.

Worst: (Lots of movies I haven't seen, and ones I have are all pretty darn good, so this is tough)
Once Upon a Time in Mexico- Although I do remember enjoying Desperado, I just couldn't get into this sequel. Don't really know why, but I thought it was mediocre at very best.
The Big Labowski- Borrowed this movie from a friend because he absolutely loved it. I on the other hand had trouble getting through it. And I think if I were "The Dude" I would have punched his friend a many many times throughout that movie...
Face/Off- I remember watching this when it first came out and absolutely loving it. I watched it again about a year or so ago and was surprised. I guess I just can't take the John Woo style action anymore

Most Needed:
12 Monkeys- Very well done movie. Sci-fi, a tad hard to follow, but it all comes together very well by the end. Highly recommend it.
The Bank Job- Unlike many other of Statham's more cheesy action movies as of late, The Bank Job is very well done. It reminded me of both Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, both of which you own.
Boondock Saints- Another classic, somewhat lesser known title that doesn't necessarily match too much of the other titles in your collection, but one that I would recommend just about anyone see.

He's got it already (under T for Twelve). I only know because I've scrutinised his collection and remember seeing it down near the bottom. A good recommendation all the same.

Whoops! I even did a search for it and everything...

Hmmm, well how about:

Shawn of the Dead- Since you seem to enjoy horror flicks, maybe a bit of parody/comedy with some horror to go along with it. Although I enjoyed Hot Fuzz a tad more, most people liked Shawn of the Dead more.

Cheers,

I'll do my best on Vittra's collection, though it's hard to fight through all the anime  :

The Best:
Terminator 2 - not much to say, the beginning of an era, regarding the FX and the story
The Game - thrilling, I appreciate Sean Penn and Michael Douglas' performance in this movie
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - amazing end of an amazing trilogy, still getting goose skin when the Rohirrim charge the Orc's flank

The Worst:
10.000 BC - ouch, Emmerich's worst movie, idea...everything
Matrix Revolutions - why oh why; but I own it also for the sake of the collection
V for Vandetta - booooring

Most Needed:
Patlabor - I do not know many anime's, but I really like this one (still need it myself  )
28 Weeks later - you own the "first" one, give it a try - terrific and tense
Lethal Weapon (1-4) - you might like them

Well, in the spirit of keeping good threads alive, I'll take a stab at quin71's collection - but if I miss something in the German, sorry!

The Best:
The African Queen - a fabulous classic film, and I am in serious, serious DVD envy over here
Iron Man - a superb adaptation, nailed everything perfectly (there's a reason this is the first blu-ray I picked up)
Star Trek: The Original Series: Season One - I'm convinced there will never be a better show

The Worst:
Dogma - words cannot describe how much I hated this movie (but everyone I know loves it)
Dungeons & Dragons - I DMed games with better plot & characters when I was like 11
The Grinch - okay, I hate Jim Carey, but also the cartoon did not need a remake

Needed:
Ghost in the Shell - I spotted Akira & Blade Runner, so I think you might enjoy it
The Neverending Story - with Legend & Willow in your collection, I think you might like it
Blue Planet - perfect pairing for Planet Earth
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Thanks for reviewing, you did not miss anything in the German

I did not think "African Queen" would make it in the list from anyone reviewing my collection. I love this movie, and I watch from time to time
"Iron Man" is one of the best Comic adaptions so far and so full of irony and side blows, really a good movie to enjoy action, humor and popcorn
"Star Trek: The Original Series: Season One" - I think there is not much to say. As you could tell from my collection, I am not a fan of Star Trek (I do not own anything from it besides this season), but it is simply a classic, maybe the hour of birth for all the success of the following SciFi (be it movies or series).

I must admit I really love "Dogma"  , Alan Rickman is so hilarious, but my wife doesn't like it either, so you are not allone!
You are absolutely right with Dungeons and Dragons, but it is counting a +1 to my total amount of DVD's, so I won't burn it.
I think I own "The Grinch" 'cause I found it for 1€ on a grab-table

I have heared of "Ghost in the Shell", and as you now also mention it, I might take a shot at it-thanks for that reminder.
"The Neverending Story" - When I was 13, I was in the cinema twice to watch the movie (back in 198something), and I really loved it and was absolutely amazed. My reason for not owning it, is my fear that I might watch it and loose this magic I encountered back then and still remember now. In this case I really put my memories over my greed for DVD's
I am actually waiting for a Blu-ray from "Blue Planet". I know there exists an American Region Free Blu-ray, but I want to have it with German language track, so I can watch it with my daughter. It is definitely on the list

If you decide to give in, it seems that it's available on Blu-Ray. If you buy from the linked site, don't wait too long, because they're not restocking (gradually winding down operations). Avoid the third movie (with Jack Black) like the plague.

I've had that happen to me once ... with The Animaniacs.  Picked up the first box of that show remembering how fun it was and how much I enjoyed it, and it did not hold up over the years.  I was sitting there going 'that's it?'  Some of the segments were still funny, but most were just eh.  My co-worker had that happen to him with the D&D cartoon, which is what stopped me from picking up that set.

Neverending Story hasn't done that to me - I think there's enough in that film that it holds up over the years and us growing up.  I was 9 when it came out, and still watch my copy occasionally and enjoy the heck out of it.  Just a classic fantasy film.  The book is wonderful too.  But I'll take W0m6at's advice a bit farther - avoid both sequels.  The original is the only way to go.

Danae Cassandra:

Going to stick with anime because...well...I just feel like it...

Best:
Azumanga Daioh - Fantastic comedy and Osaka never gets old. Favorite anime comedy hands down.
Bleach TV - As my avatar suggests, I'm a big Bleach fan, although I'm not even close to being current, so I have no idea what the series has become. From what I've seen though, fantastic.
X TV Series - Great Drama/Action series, and one of the only series sometimes considered as a Shojo genre that I have absolutely loved. Has some teary eyed moments in to too.

Worst:
Cardcaptor Sakura TV - Granted I've only seen the first 25 or so episodes, it seemed very repetitive and I just couldn't get into it. Maybe too geared towards a younger and female audience for me.
Ceres - A series that my wife actually enjoyed that I couldn't stand. The female lead falls in love with the male jerk, rather than the "nice guy". Since I'm a "nice guy" this just rubbed me the wrong way.
Argentosoma - A series that I honestly can't remember if I finished or not, but don't remember liking too much either. I owned the whole thing at one point, but sold it awhile back due to lack of interest.

Most Needed:
Witch Hunter Robin - An anime for the Mystery/Drama fan, with a pinch of Horror thrown in. Excellent story that developes slowly at first and ends very strong, tying everything together. Very recommended.
Paranoia Agent - I have grown rather fond of Satoshi Kon's work. My favorite being Perfect Blue, but Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers were great as well. I haven't seen Paprika yet. You own all these movies and Paranoia Agent is his only venture into the TV series realm. With more time to build his story, he does a fantastic job IMO. Very highly recommended.
The Twelve Kingdoms - Currently holds my all time favorite anime slot with a good margine. It's slow to get moving, but once it hooks you, it won't let you go. Has a few moments that absolutely "took my breath away" (sounds like a cheesy line, but they were that moving). Based off of a series of novels, unfortunately they didn't tell as much of the story as I would have liked. I have since picked up a few of the (translated) novels that it is based off of and I don't like reading much (which says a lot). Can't recommend this one enough!

quin71 -
Thanks for the suggestions!

I've added Patlabor to my Netflix queue. Have heard of it, but never looked into it. 28 Weeks Later is already on my "To Buy" List. First one was great! Leathal Weapons I have to preview before I buy (also Netflix'ing them!). It's one of those series that I absolutely loved when I was younger that I wonder if they'll hold up the same today. Thanks again for taking the time to look at my collection!

P.S. V for Vendetta rocked!

Thanks for reviewing my collection!  Sorry it took a bit to reply.

Azumanga Daioh - this is what I'm currently watching!  Haven't watched it before, but so far it is abso-friggen-lutly hilarious!

Bleach TV - haven't watched Bleach yet (I'm unfortunately one of those people who won't watch a series until I have the whole thing) but I've heard enough good about it from other people that I picked up the first season when it showed up in the shop.

X TV - one of my favorite series, hands down.  The manga is even better.

Cardcaptor Sakura TV - like Bleach, haven't actually watched it because I don't have the whole series.  I adore the manga, however, so it's was an easy pick up for me.

Ceres - I loved Ceres, but I didn't see Toya as a jerk - he's definitely the 'bad boy' stereotype, but I didn't think he was a jerk.  But he definitely plays against Yuuhi's 'nice boy,' so I can see that point.

Argentosoma - can't say one way or the other, since this is in the queue of things to be watched

Witch Hunter Robin - I actually do own it - just in a HK bootleg I mistakenly bought.  I really enjoyed it a lot, so I'm waiting for the official release to come into the shop to pick up so I can ditch my bootleg.

Paranoia Agent - I love everything from Satoshi Kon, so I will definitely have to keep my eye out for this one.  (Paprika was very good, if a bit weird.)

Twelve Kingdoms - I've seen the box, but hadn't heard a lot about this anime.  With such a glowing recommendation, I'll definitely have to keep my eye out for it.

Perhaps someone who doesn't normally play?
