Hi,

I need some clarification on prerelease contributions. Specifically, is it okay to add some basic cast & crew data to profiles for which a complete cast & crew list is simply not possible because the film was has not yet been released anywhere?
Background: I have updated the prerelease profile of the German Blu-ray of Doctor Strange with some names I remember from the movie credits (I saw the film recently again at the cinema). For this I got a No vote from a user who thinks I can only add complete cast & crew data (which is simply not available at his time). The rules don't specifically mention that I am required to add complete data, but that the data must be from the film credits (which they are).

What do you think?
Bye,
Elwood

If the DVD is not released, where are you getting the Cast and Crew data from? Personally, I would not contribute that data in a prerelease contribution.

As far as complete data, the "no" voter is wrong. The rules do not require one to contribute everything for a profile.

@Kathy:
The OP clearly states he got the credits from memory after seeing the movie at the cinema.

The rules say that the authoritative source for information should be the DVD.

For me, I wouldn't contribute anything but very basic information until I had the disc in hand.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.

Where does it say that? Under http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx?display=credits it is only stated that I have to use the actual film credits (which I saw at the cinema). And the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch appears in the movie is basic information, at least for me.

First page of the Contribution Rules, third paragraph.

It depends in my opinion.

If he were to state that Benedict Cumberbatch played a role in this movie, I'd have no problem with that contribution.

If it were John Doe III then I may have.

The credits in the media could be different from the credits in the film.

Uncredited actors are authorised. If people consider that only DVD credits are usable, when there is no DVD, there are no credits and every actor is uncredited, so every actor can be entered as uncredited...
So, in my point of view, it is correct to list main recognizable actors in a prerelease contribution.

If the DVD hasn't been released, then there is no disc id or confirmed UPC, so it would have to be a manual profile not allowed to upload to database. so no cast/crew, disc info/features. No Profile. No 3rd party database. If you want to be technical about it.

UPC (or EAN) is known several weeks before release (you can get it on Amazon for example). This allows to contribute a prerelease profile.
For example, EAN for French release of Rogue One is 8717418497132. And I clearly recognized Felicity Jones playing Jyn Erso, the main character...

things change all the time, nothing is definite until it is actually released - UPC/EAN can change, that is why there are dead profiles in the database, prerelease contributions that have never had a update other the the initial contribution.

You are right. On DVD release, probably Jyn Erso will be played by another actress than Felicity Jones...

The point is that we can't know how she will be credited on dvd

From Contribution rules:
"The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself."
"Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits."
"For any film with standard credits, take the actor information from the end credits only, with names and roles listed exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited."
