Will try to keep this short (unlike what I usually do).

So complete Series of TV shows have always kind of frightened the hell out of me in regards to entering them in the system

I don't use child profiles for tv sets. As one of the main things I use the program for is cast and crew, for me personally it makes no sense to have an actor credited four times for a single season just because that's how many discs there are in the set. Either profile every episode or the single season, so for me I just go with the season. Since I don't use child profiles for tv sets... this is where my cast and crew questions come into play for entire series.

So for example, I own Married With Children: The Complete Series UPC: 043396385658

This profile has ALL the individual discs attached to it (props to Cubbyups for doing all the work). The child profiles contain full cast and crew. There's nothing saying I can't copy the cast and crew from all those profiles and add it to the parent profile so it contains the entire cast and crew for the series, correct?

Which leads me to this question, if I were to do that and submit it, how do I number the episodes? Normally for a season we number it "1. Episode Title" or "Episode 1" if no title is available.  For Married With Children, would I number the episodes "1. Episode Title - 263. Episode Title" or something else? Like "1.1 Episode Title" for Season 1 Episode 1 and "2.1 Episode Title" for Season 2 Episode 1?

The other one I'm currently looking at is Maude: The Complete Series UPC 826663156058. This one's a little different as it's not just a bunch of discs thrown into a package. Seasons 1&2, Seasons 3&4 and Seasons 5&6 all come packaged in their own keep cases (no individual UPC's) along with a bonus disc. There are individual child profiles for these (at a package level, not a disc level) in the system right now, again, not complete. To complete cast and crew for these, again how would I title the episodes? Since each keep case contains two full seasons?

Also, is this actually the way they should be profiled? As they are packaged in keep cases, or should they all just be profiled at disc level? So does that mean technically one could create "grandchildren" profiles for these?

Season 1 Disc 1
Season 1 Disc 2
Season 1 Disc 3
Season 2 Disc 1
Season 2 Disc 2
Season 2 Disc 3

and attach that to the child profile for Seasons 1&2, which is in turn attached to the Complete Series?

Or remove Seasons 1&2, Seasons 3&4 and Seasons 5&6 from the complete series as children, and just attach disc level profiles?

And this is why complete series scare the hell out of me

Any help would be greatly appreciated on either example so I can get the hang of this specific part of the program.

Thanks!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Yes, the rules demand a complete listing in the parent profile.

From my point of view the rules are not precise on this. But I'd prefer a Season/Episode numbering. This allows to compare the episodes with other releases of single seasons.

... If you'd ask this question for your next example, you can imagine the inherent potential for a real mess

The only exception I see, are TV series which do not number the episodes sequentially (e.g. Star Trek). But they already got an excemption in the rules.

The package level profiles for packages without an UPC are forbidden by the rules:
Quote:
Note: In cases where multiple complete TV seasons/series (each with distinct UPC/EAN) are packaged together, the Box-set rules are applied, treating each season/series like a single film - applying the above rules for its individual profile.

... therefore I won't worry about them.

No, just:

Masterprofile for the whole series
|--Disc 1 (Season 1 Disc 1)
|--Disc 2 (Season 1 Disc 2)
|--Disc 3 (Season 1 Disc 3)
|--Disc 4 (Season 2 Disc 1)
|--Disc 5 (Season 2 Disc 2)
...

But there is an exception for the cover scans. They may show the cover of the individual packaging:
Quote:
Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules with one exception - Cover Images. If a disc, or set of discs, have their own case, use the cover images from that case.

Quote:

Yes, in most cases it will be necessary to completely remove the package level profiles, since they use the disc ID of one of the contained discs. An this disc ID is needed to create the disc level profile...

Maybe you want to have some fun and read this thread. Happy quarreling and insulting, but the topic is discussed ad nauseam...

Just read the thread and I think the discussion went rather well, by Invelos standards at least.

Indeed, go ahead.

I would indeed use episode dividers like "1.1 Episode Title" for episodes in the first season, "2.1 Episode Title" for episodes from the second season, and so on. That's as close as the rules-prescribed "1. Episode Title" while still taking into account the seasons.

Still "1.1 Episode Title", "2.1 Episode Title" and so on: a simple standard that doesn't depend on packaging.

Disc-based child profiles for TV shows remain optional, so they never really "should be profiled at disc level". You can choose to do so, but it isn't required.

In the case of 'Maude: The Complete Series' under UPC 826663156058, the current four child profiles indeed need to go, they're not allowed. All data should be in the parent and disc-level based *are* allowed, but optional. These "in-between" profiles are not allowed, and should be removed.

Agree with everyone else except for the numbering of episodes. In my opinion no season indicator in the numbering... just 1. Episode Title through 263. Episode Title or what have you. I think this is more in line with what the rules say and in my honest opinion more informative.

I don't, so I'll stick with "1.1 Episode Title" and so forth. As always, I'd welcome a decision about the matter from Invelos, though.

Thanks for the responses guys.

So this is what I'm gathering from all the information here:

Married With Children: The Complete Series UPC 043396385658

Go ahead and submit full cast and crew for the entire series for Married With Children, it's allowed per the rules.

Since there are already disc level profiles for this series, nothing else really needs to be done here, just transferring the cast and crew to the parent profile.

The only question that remains, which isn't covered by the rules so far as I can tell, is how to number the Episode Dividers.

Maude: The Complete Series UPC 826663156058

Again, full cast and crew for all six seasons is allowed in the main profile.

The current children profiles of Seasons 1 & 2, Seasons 3 & 4, Seasons 5 & 6 that are in the system simply because they're packaged together in a keep case are not allowed per the rules (as they don't have their own UPC) and should have a contribution submitted to remove them. Since they would need to be removed, there's no need to fill in cast & crew for just these profiles or attach any disc level profiles to them (and since these profiles are entered using a Disc ID from one of the seasons they contain, that will block me from using that Disc ID when creating disc level child profiles).

I'm free to create the optional children profiles (Season One: Disc 1 - Season Six: Disc 3, eighteen discs in total) and attach those to the parent profile (instead of the current incorrect children profiles currently attached).

The Bonus Disc which is a bonus disc that includes materials for all seasons included in the box set would be okay, would it not? As the rules say "If there is a disc of Bonus Material for all films included in the Box-set, create a separate profile for this disc." This would apply in this situation to the Bonus Disc, would it not?

Again, the only thing that seems to be called into question is how to number the Episode Dividers as the rules don't specifically state this.

Okay... think I got it!

Thanks guys! Going to start working on some of them right away! Appreciate all the responses!
