| | Posted: | | | | I have a Blu-ray Disc Drive for my laptop but it doesn't read UHD discs. Is there any other way I can get disc IDs for UHD or do I have to wait for someone else to do it? Normally it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I have things like the UHD Spider-Man Legacy Collection that has child profiles that are UHD that I can't add without it. |

I have the Pioneer BDR-XD06J-UHD connected to my iMac, which reads the disc IDs and would be able to play UHD-BDs on a Windows 10 PC if you meet the hardware requirements. But this drive is only available in Japan (via ebay) and costs about $200. |

Ugh, that's certainly lame. It sounds like LG did that on purpose just to disable the UHD capability of the drive. Yes, they did and they did that to all of their older "unofficial" BD drives that would read UHD Blu-rays. If you happen to have an older computer where you can set the SATA configuration in the BIOS fto IDE vice AHCI then there is a method in downgrade the firmware. From what I understood, past "official" LG firmware allowed you to downgrade firmware until the latest version which now prohibits it. |
