This has been discussed before but I could not find the thread.

Someone is changing the Title data for a child profile for from:

Title: Hellboy: Disc 1
Edition: Director's Cut
Media Types: DVD
Original Title:  >

Title: Hellboy: Disc 1
Edition: Director's Cut
Media Types: DVD
Original Title: Hellboy

My understanding is we do not use Original Title field for Child Disc Profiles.

Thoughts?

I don't know about any discussion about this issue, but the first variant breaks the CLT. Therefore I'd prefer the second one...

In my opinion the title "Hellboy: Disc 1" for a child profile is wrong. Whats on the cover?

.
Hellboy

I don't understand why, when addressing Child Profiles Disc 1,  Disc 2 etc, you would add Original Title. The Title of the film is Hellboy.

Per rules: "In cases where the title is the original title, leave the Original Title field blank."

Actually looking at the disc level profile there is no Title. At the top it just says Disc 1 and a large picture of Hellboy. That's pretty much it.

If one was a stickler to the rules, one could say the title should just be 'Disc 1'.

See if this works.
Hellboy: Disc 1: Director's Cut

So why create a child profile? It's a combo?

It's a normal two disc release. Main feature on disc 1, special features on disc 2.
It should not have any child profiles.

This appears to be from a 3-disc release, but your point is still valid. Discs 2-3 of the set are just bonus features with the movie on disc 1 only. As you said, there shouldn't be any child profiles based on this.

Indeed, there shouldn't be child profiles for these discs. Quoting the contribution rules:
Quote:
If a Box Set contains discs of Bonus Material for individual films, do not create separate profiles for these discs.

Except it is NOT a Box Set, it is a single film.

And later in that same rule the following is shown.
Quote:
If there is a disc of Bonus Material for all films included in the Box-set, create a separate profile for this disc.

So the question is, is there anywhere in the rules that forbid adding bonus discs for one film?
And if not, then I guess one could add the bonus disc for any single film release.

Ah, another lovely example of "interpreting the rules to death"... To me, the rule I quoted makes it very clear that a single film with one or more bonus discs does not get child profiles for these bonus discs. Do we really want to attach a child profile to *every* single film with one or more bonus discs? I certainly don't. Maybe a poll is in order?

A three-disc set for a single film isn't a box set.  Just packaging it like a box set doesn't actually make it one. Therefore, unless one of the discs contains a bonus film, there shouldn't be any child profiles.  If the discs only contain bonus material, that should just be noted under the features.  That's how I would read the rules, anyway.

This is off topic because I am not discussing a Box Set.

I think I did not explain the situation clearly and I'm not sure I can now.

Basically all I want to know is: Do we add Original Title field for a film that has multiple discs? Where in the rules does it say this is correct?

Title: Hellboy: Disc 1
Edition: Director's Cut
Media Types: DVD
Original Title: Hellboy

The Title of the film is Hellboy. That is the Original Title of the film so, imho, adding Hellboy to the Original Title field violates the rules: "In cases where the title is the original title, leave the Original Title field blank."

For a non-boxset release the only time we add a child profile is if it is a combo, or if it has a bonus feature. We do not add child profiles for other discs.

This may not be specifically stated in the rules, but when you add discs to a profile, the first disc you add automatically gets labeled "Main Feature", subsequent discs get labeled "Bonus Materials". This clearly implies that bonus material discs belong to the main (and only) profile.

So your question is moot.

Here is the UPC I am discussing: 043396074095. Please download it to see what I am talking about.

It is entered as you say for the main profile. But, when you put the individual discs in the get entered by the Disc Id. In this case there are 3 Discs entered.

I have thousands and thousands of profiles that have been entered this way and have no idea why you would think my query is "moot".
