Has there been a change in the UK membership over the last couple of years?

The reason I ask - I've noticed over this period that when adding new DVDs or Blu rays to my personal collection it has become increasingly common to find that the UK disc details have not been added to the Invelos database.  Just curious.

Still a fabulous resource I have to say!

Yes I agree with you entirely.  Even pretty mainstream and popular films are quite often missing.  If certainly an issue that's getting more common I think.

And yes, the fact that actually most are there when I add a new film to my collection is still pretty cool.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I'm surprised sometimes when importing UK titles that even for what should be fairly popular titles not even the proper covers have been added. Definitely not what it used to be.

For Sweden it's even worse, but I can usually find a decent profile for at least one of the Nordic countries and since they tend to be identical I don't often bother to create new localised profiles.

I'm sorry but a post like this just bugs me. In one sentence you complain about how the database is.... and on the very next you admit you don't do anything to help the situation...

In my opinion if you refuse to do anything to help the database you have no right to complain about it. After all it is a user created database.

If it is not in the database.... feel free to help out and put it in. After all that is the only thing that will solve the problem.

Seconded.  As someone who spends quite a lot of time entering profiles and cast/crew information, I find it frustrating when people complain that it's not what it used to be, then admit they don't contribute themselves.

Who are you adressing? If me, i just explained that creating localised profiles for the Nordic countries when one already exist is pointless, since they are for all purposes identical except for a few details I adjust locally.

When there are no suitable profiles I of course contribute. I think my contribution history to this databse speaks for itself so get down from your high horse and slap your face until you wake up.

And if there is no profiles for the correct locality it should be conrtributed. Why should everyone do like you said and find a  similar and change it locally? So yes I see that as not good for the online database and being part of the problem. No offense meant just my opinion.

It's not only the overview that differs, the rating and SRP are also always different and very often the title too.

So back to my original, inoffensive, question - what has changed?

Membership declining?    Less folk contributing?  Folk moving to other platforms?

I think it's mostly membership declining, which leads to less people contributing.  IMO, the hands-off approach Ken has taken to the software has not helped keep the community engaged, and a disengaged community results in people abandoning the contribution process and just using the software locally.

I also blame digital becoming so popular. I will forever be fan of the physical media... but seems so many are going digital for movies/TV as well as video games.

I am still contributing, but I am currently working back through the UK list for any remaining profiles that are sitting in the wrong locality and getting the removed, once finished then I will go back to checking all my physical media as I prefer disc's to digital.

I do have a suspicion that people maybe contribute less now because the Rules have become so out of date and looking through the forums for answers (if you can even work out how to do that effectively), just turns up a small group of people disagreeing over the interpretation of them.  As physical media has 'upgraded' and more and more examples of things that don't fit the Rules have been highlighted, it really has become difficult in a lot of cases to confidently contribute, especially if you haven't done it often.

Speaking for myself, I sometimes don't contribute updates I've made to my own local database, as some things are too contentious/unclear and I can't be bothered to waste my time and that of others with inaccurate contributions. I like clear instructions and for an increasingly larger number of DVDs etc, the Rules don't really provide this.
