Putting this here because it is Genre... so it is subjectable... and I do not plan to contribute... But I noticed that Venom is marked as horror. And I found myself on the fence on this one.... sure there is some horrific things in this... but would you personally have this as horror in your collection.

Note: I only seen this once... when it first came out.

Why would you not consider it a horror film?  What essential element does it lack?

Personally, I have Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein categorized as "horror" in my collection, so I'm flexible.

My main thing is I watched it the once and I am not sure I am remembering enough. It is already listed as horror in the database. was trying to think if there was "enough " horror elements to call this a horror movie.

If it's your local database it's your call.  It's like asking how many songs need to be in a movie for it to be a musical.

Just looking for people's opinions... guess that is just not right to do. Will learn from my "mistake" than to ask opinions around here.

A pefectly acceptable question, in my mind. I haven't seen it, so I can't really say.
The cover sure makes it look like horror, but IMDb says
Quote:
Genres: Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi | Thriller
so I guess maybe the cover misrepresents the contents a bit?

When I said earlier that I'm flexible, and have Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein cataloged as "horror", that was meant to suggest that if Venom was categorized as "horror" in the online database, and I added it to my collection, I would probably retain that genre.

By the way, this is what Wikipedia says about Venom and horror:
Quote:
Venom was considered "a spin on a horror film", inspired by the works of John Carpenter and David Cronenberg, but with "more pop and fun".

Like many other comic book based movies, I would definitely agree with the Action and Adventure genres with Venom. Personally, I think genres of Horror, Sci-Fi and Thriller are going a little too far and I wouldn't use any of them

Action, Adventure and Sci-Fi I can see.  Horror or Thriller, I don't see it...and I have seen this movie multiple times.

Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman are classic horror movie monsters so, even if the movie is a comedy, as they are with the 'Abbott and Costello meet' versions, I would consider anything with them in it as a horror sub-genre.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Citing the BD bonus materials:
- ... we lean towards horror, ...
- The director Ruben Fleischer was chosen, because he had alread experience with the horror/comedy cross over from Zombieland
