Quote: I could send it to you, I have the original zip file. Is this application working for you? Sadly it's not working for me, no matter what version I use. No IMDB data is coming down. It's clearly not working for others as well. If it is working for some it would be cool to determine why. I've got $100 burning a hole in my pocket when an updated version of the application is offered that works with the current IMDB website. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

Quote: Yes, I have noticed the moving cursor when initially just making a change to the overview. Your observation is indeed correct, and based on my testing, I would expand on your work-around and say any changes to the profile (clicking 2D on or off, clicking a feature on or off, etc) would solve your problem.
This is what I think is happening:
When you start DVDP, a "Temp" folder is created in the username/AppData/Local/DVD Profiler/ folder on your Windows PC.
After opening the initial profile in DVDP, the program creates two temp files (with .DAT and .IDX extensions) in this Temp folder.
When you modify any data element in the profile, the program first writes the profile's original content to these temp files (as backup, in case you cancel your changes), and this happens very quickly.
However, if your first change is to modify the overview, you actually witness the program display the moving cursor across the contents of the overview, because it triggered the profile's backup into the temp files. Any additional changes you make to the overview doesn't cause the cursor to move because the profile's original content has been backed up.
Thanks for alerting the community on this quirky behaviour, I hope my explanation provides some insight into the mechanics of how this program works. And yes, I agree this application is a thing of beauty. ObiKen? Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...a long time. What an excellent read. You truly know the ways of the force. Thanks so much for chiming in. | Posted: Topic Replies: 6, Topic Views: 1047 |

Quote: Odd! I don't see that happening. There must be something else that is interfering. Interesting. Guess there must be. What I described has been the case with all my DVD Profiler installations since day one over the years across numerous Windows operating systems. Delighted to have a workaround now. Just edit a field on the "General Information" tab first prior to going to the "Overview" tab. Whatever the issue is, that corrects it. No delay at that point when dropping my cursor in the "Overview" field and executing that initial keystroke. | Posted: Topic Replies: 6, Topic Views: 1047 |

When editing the "Overview" field for a given profile I've always experienced a delay once clicking in the field and executing that initial keystroke. The more text present in the field the longer it takes before the program allows me to freely edit the field. When the "Overview" text extends below the height of the "Overview" window the application actually scrolls the contents from top to bottom as if it's loading the contents into memory before giving me back control of the cursor within the field. With my TV Series profiles I include an "Episode List" and "Episode Guide" within the "Overview" field. Making the smallest of edits after the fact has been a painful process as a result as the delay is quite significant after that initial keystoke.
That being said, I stumbled on to a workaround that completely eliminates the delay I've been experiencing when clicking in the given "Overview" field and executing that initial keystroke. Not sure if this is common knowledge or not. Thought I'd share the love just in case. Once accessing the "Edit Profile" window for a given profile all one has to do is edit a text field on the "General Information" tab first prior to accessing the "Overview" tab. I've just been adding, then removing a space from the "Sort Title" field for example. Going to the "Overview" tab at that point I'm able to click in the "Overview" field making any number of edits without delay just as if I had a Notepad document open. My one real annoyance with this application is no more. It's truly a beautiful thing. | Posted: Topic Replies: 6, Topic Views: 1047 |

| For purposes of contribution the given title should match the title naming that appears on the product packaging, i.e. slip, cover art, disc labels. For your own use locally name the titles as you see fit. | Posted: Topic Replies: 7, Topic Views: 1154 |

So, just a reminder, if CastCrewInfo isn't working you can get cast and crew with TmdbInfo. It's not quite as advanced, but it is better than nothing (and it doesn't need constant updates since the Tmdb API doesn't change). Okay, so I'm not the only one. And yes, thanks for reminding me. I'll use your TmdbInfo in the interim. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

So now I'm curious. What version of Windows are you running? I'm on Windows 11 Pro (Version: 24H2 | OS build: 26100.8246). ____________________
Well, I gave it another try. Same result. No data is coming down. Tried the latest build of Windows 10 via VirtualBox as well. Just isn't working. Time to try a different computer I suppose. Will see if it's working with my old Windows 7 laptop. Also have a new HTPC. I'll give it a go there as well. It is possible that the settings file is corrupted. You might have to fish around a bit - I think in AppData in one of the microsoft or dvd profiler folders. When you delete the settings and the plugin will automatically rebuild the settings, but of course you will lose any options or settings for any plugins that use the same settings file. Maybe give it a shot. You can always save the settings just in case that was not the problem.
Also. click on the details button and post that information. There might be a clue in there. Thanks for the feedback. No joy yet. Did find the below which I deleted.
\Users\ASUS\AppData\Local\Doena_Soft\CheckForDuplicatesInCastC_Url_3trfl35j5z5yisojotxstyrdgtjb2o0b\2.0.0.1\user.config
Issue persists unfortunately. Same via the latest build of Windows 10 running on VirtualBox.
Will try the latest build of the plugin on a couple other computers now, my old Windows 7 laptop and recently purchased Mini PC running Windows 11 Pro. Wish my luck! ____________________
An update here for those listening in. Still no dice. This is getting annoying. Tried the latest version of the plugin on my old Windows 7 laptop. An immediate fatal exception error occurs, the program then having to close. Next I give my Mini PC a try which is running Windows 11 Pro with all available updates, UAC set to "Never notify", all the other garbage turned off that's supposed to protect me from myself. Bought the Mini PC a month ago. It's brand new. Fresh build of Windows. Downloaded the latest version of the plugin, unblocked the *.exe's, launched the application. First time running the application on the Mini PC. Same result as my laptop running Windows 11 Pro. When scanning the given page after having browsed to a title the process completes successfully. No data is coming down whether it be a Movie or TV show. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

I gave this version a try just now. Not able to replicate the error. Are you able to replicate the error at will? If so, what actions are taking place from the moment you launch the application prior to the error happening?
Of course I did check to see if we were back in business with this version. Still nothing when hitting up the "Scan Page" button from the "Movie" or "TV Show" tabs once browsing to a title from the "Browser" tab. Quote: Sorry have been away for a while. I will take a look into it. But as I said the problem will be growing as web technologies improve and sites like IMDb try to load more data on the fly when the browser requests it but is not visible for a scraper like mine. At present the IMDB website has a dedicated "Cast & crew" page for each title and/or TV episode which once loaded displays all the needed data in one go. Hopefully so long as that's the case it will be possible for your application to scrape said data for use with DVD Profiler. That being said, I look forward to your application being able to scrape the cast and crew data once again. Currently it's not working for me at all, neither tab, Movie or TV Show. Count on a generous donation coming your way from me soon and irrespective of whether you get this working again. Your Cast/Crew Edit 2 application has been worth its weight in gold. If I had to choose between having access to Invelos.com or a fully functional Cast/Crew Edit 2 I'd choose your application every day of the week and twice on Sunday. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

Quote: When CastCrewEdit isn't working you might try TmdbInfo instead. It is, admittedly, not as advanced as CastCrewEdit, and it uses TMDB which is not quite as comprehensive as IMDb, BUT it is stable since it uses an API rather than having to do screen scraping. For most titles it is good enough to provide basic cast and crew data that you can then verify against the actual credits.
As movie_madness implies, sooner or later DJ is likely to give up on updating CastCrewEdit. And who can blame him? He has done a stellar job so far, but IMDb seems to be intent on tripping up anyone who does screen scraping. That's a problem that I don't have with TmdbInfo. I stumbled upon your TmdbInfo just yesterday in fact. Used it to add "Cast/Crew" data to a profile I created for "Bosch: Legacy - The Final Season" which I recently authored to Blu-ray. The "Cast" data per episode is looking great. The "Crew" data only includes the "Director" and "Writer" for each episode. Certainly gets the job done for now. The tool worked very well. Thanks! | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

| The "TV Show" tab isn't able to scan the page I've browsed to via the "Browser" tab. Running "Cast/Crew Edit 2 Version 2.1.15.1". What's keeping DVD Profiler alive for me isn't Invelos.com. It's Cast/Crew Edit 2. Invelos could close shop tomorrow. I could care less. I'm perfectly content working locally and host my own phpDVDProfiler based website. Having to manually add cast and crew data to new profiles, now that's a deal breaker. I've got better things to do with my life. I don't care whether the given IMDB data is accurate of not. The moment "Cast/Crew Edit 2" is working again I'll be submitting a generous donation. Hopefully an update is in the works. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

That's where the error arises (CreateWebViewControlHost) and for some reason some browser plugins don't work for everyone which is why I added this option. Thanks for chiming in. I'll have a look at that when I get home this evening. __________________________________
I just realized. No need to wait until I get home this evening. I usually power down my laptop before leaving the house. Left it on this morning at it turns out. Connected to it just now and am happy to report that adding the "/browser=webview2" switch did the trick. The application launches without issue now, the IMDB website being displayed in its full glory. No issues from there browsing the website and pulling down cast and crew data for a given movie or TV series. Works great. Thanks again DJ Doena for chiming in. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

So anyone else have any thoughts on this? CastCrewEdit2.exe is still only running as a background process for me eventually throwing an error. (See the error message I posted a few replies back.) Very disappointing as the application was running without issue initially per my fresh build of Windows 11.
That being said, I got tired of using my old Windows 7 laptop just for this application. Came up with a much better workaround a short time ago. Had a Windows 10 iso file sitting on my hard drive so figured I might as well put it to good use. Installed Oracle VirtualBox and am back in business.
(Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.)
Copy/paste wasn't working between Guest and Host at first. Finally remembered that Guest Additions needed to be installed. Doh! Was good to go after that. Whatever it takes I suppose. Guess from time to time I'll attempt to run CastCrewEdit2 locally to see if the issue corrects itself. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

I updated Windows 7 to 26100.4770 and no change sad to say. CastCrewEdit2.exe still only shows up under Task Manager when run followed by the error message shown in my prior post several minutes later.
Just for kicks I ran the below executables directly.
CheckForDuplicatesInCastCrewEdit2Cache.exe CompareProfilerXMLAndCastCrewEdit2Cache.exe EditIMDbToDVDProfilerCrewRoleTransformation.exe
In each case Windows Defender blocked the given exe from running. Selected "Run Anyway" for each when prompted after which the application window was displayed. Each of the above now run on the first attempt without issue.
So for now my workaround is to use Cast/Crew Edit 2 on my old Windows 7 laptop saving the given XML, then browsing to the file in question across the network from my Windows 11 laptop. | Posted: Topic Replies: 781, Topic Views: 72319 |

Is anyone else having issues getting this program to run on Windows 11 Pro (Version: 24H2 | OS build: 26100.4652) by chance? It was working a few months ago, the last time I used it.
Downloaded the application fresh a short time ago. Same issue. When I run the executable the application is not displayed. It's also absent from the Taskbar. The process is present under Task Manager, but that's it.
If I refrain from ending the process via Task Manager the below error message is displayed after several minutes.
