Ein eiskalter Yuppie auf einem mörderischen Trip: Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) hat im New York der 80er alles: Geld, gutes Aussehen, jeden erdenklichen Luxus... und einen unstillbaren Hass auf sein Umfeld. Diesen kompensiert er mit sadistischen Morden an jungen Frauen, für die ihm bald schon die Polizei auf der Spur ist. Aber Schein und Sein liegen nahe beieinander in der trügerischen Welt des Yuppie-Killers, dessen Realität schon bald auf äußerst tönernen Füßen steht.
Mit ihrer kongenialen Adaption des umstrittenen Kultromans von Bret Easton Ellis ist Mary Harron ein großer Wurf gelungen. Als mit Christian Bale perfekt besetzte Satire umschifft ihr „American Psycho” allzu kontroverse Untiefen ohne dem Stoff seine vernichtende Schärfe zu nehmen. |
