DO NOT FORSAKE ME OH MY DARLING
Awaking in his London apartment might indicate the end of the Prisoner's nightmare, but not when he discovers that his mind has been transferred into another man's body!
Behind-the-Scenes:
Largely filmed while Patrick McGoohan was away in America filming the movie 'Ice Station Zebra', the script had to go through extensive re-writes before the episode was finally completed. Original writer Vincent Tilsley was not involved with the changes and was less than satisfied with the end result. The original title was FACE UNKNOWN. The letter written to Dr. Seltzmann is addressed in McGoohan's handwriting and the address reveals an inside-joke.
Episode Order Debate:
Another defeat for Number Two, but this is largely due to Professor Seltzman! The first season's 13 episodes were completed (including ONCE UPON A TIME) when Patrick McGoohan headed for the States for filming Howard Hughes' favorite film. Once back, he was free to complete work on the remaining stories.
LIVING IN HARMONY
The face is familiar, but the Western scenery isn't. The man on horseback rides into town and turns in his Sheriff's badge. Why is he resigning? An all-too-familiar question is asked again in a very unusual story with a special Village twist.
Behind-the-Scenes:
This was not aired in the USA by CBS in 1968 or 1969. No mention was made at the time of a "missing" episode. It is believed that the story of a man who refused to carry a weapon may have hit too close to home during the Vietnam War. Early script drafts had The Kid (Alexis Kanner) in a speaking role, the change to eerie silence was an acting challenge, but it made for a very effective performance.
Episode Order Debate:
This is another attempt at drug-induced mind manipulation from a more and more desperate Village administration. Iti s apparent from the story that this episode falls late in the series -- a resilient Number Six figures out the ploy in an instant. We place it 14th out of 17. |
