Ce chef-d'oeuvre du suspense, film phare d'Alfred Hitchcock, a élevé Anthony Perkins au rang de star. Il y interprète le rôle de Norman Bates, un personnage perturbé dont la vieille demeure et le motel attenant n'ont rien d'accueillant. Mais qui le saurait mieux que-Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), voyageuse au destin tragique, dont l'aventure s'achève avec la célèbre scène de la douche. Un détective privé (Martin Balsam), puis la soeur de Marion (Vera Miles) se lancent alors à sa recherche.
