| Posted: | | | | The great genre expansion of 2007 is coming! Ok, maybe no that great, but it is at least 2007. For 3.1, we're considering a modest expansion of the genre choices. So far the top nominees are Film Noir, Crime, and Children's. Let's start by gathering some nominations, then I'll make a poll, or possibly a series of polls depending. The polls will allow for 'none of the above' for those who would rather not mess with perfection. Please keep the nominations to at most a few per user so this doesn't get crazy. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

"Special Features" is good...that could help cover some of the retailer-exclusive discs, as well.
"Remake" would be an interesting one to have, as well. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?
No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture." |

First I would second... - Children - Crime - Special Features - Remake - Short Subject (or Short Stories)
Then I would Also Suggest... - Stand-Up Comedy | | | Pete |

Can you back my nature & discovery in return j/k However IMHO I don't think Remake is a genre as such, perhaps more a trait of some sort? Wouldn't veering away from using the sport genre for these mean other users could argue for further new genres called football, baseball, cricket, fishing etc etc? | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Another vote here for 'Mystery' and also one for 'Black Comedy'.
Re 'Stand-Up Comedy', I think James' more general 'Performance' genre might be the way to go (perhaps 'Live Performance'?). For stand-up comedy, you could then choose this in combination with comedy. For music concerts, you could choose it in conjunction with 'Music', etc.
I'd also like to add that I think we need to be careful that Genres don't expand into Keywords, like they have done on IMDb... | | | Last edited: by Squirrelecto |

| Posted: | | | | May I request, along with the increase in genre choices, there be an increase in the avialble slots. With only 3 that FilmNoir, Crime, Mystery Thriller is already overbooked Also has any thought been given to order of genres/sub-genres (especially now that 'first genre' has more meaning as you can use it in Chrats and Graphs)? It seems to be quite an area of contention when they are re-ordered and if it were possible I would prefer a system that had the genres as 'global' data but their order is local so that those who prefer having TV first and those (like me) who prefer it last can both be happy | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

GENRE - A French word meaning category, class, style, type or variety LOL... I have no problem with Nature & Discovery... just don't own any. I realize Remake isn't an actual genre... but I do agree it is something that could be useful in my collection. In a perfect world we would have a trait or category or whatever you want to call it and be able to have some of the non-genre genres in there... such as TV... one I see a huge use for... but think it is in the wrong section. | | | Pete |
