When you have to preload stuff in momery just so the application doesn't take 5 minutes to launch, you know there is a problem with the application right there (Adobe and Autodesk come to mind  )

The more alarming thing about Adobe Acrobat is that the version 8 install is 1.6 GB!

The two places where I see delays are when changing between Owned and Wish List, for example, or when changing the text that I input into the "Type a title to find" box.

The first title text that I input is fine, but when I change it to something else, it hangs for a bit, maybe 3-4 seconds. For instance, type a word, then select the word, and type a new word. For me, the first word disappears as I type but I don't see the new text that I typed. It goes blank even though I've entered text. Then after a delay, the text appears. Even clearing the text has the same delay.

For changing between Owned/Wish List etc., I would estimate that in DVDP 2.5, this takes under a second. In DVDP 3.0, it takes about 3 seconds.

I have a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz 512 MB RAM. I ran the repair utilities after I restored my database from 2.5.

The old program from last week, took about...... 12 seconds to open on my current PC., This new program takes about 20 seconds so I guess 40% longer...

Is that about the same with you all?  40 %  ?

Yeah it's slower to open, but I just chalk it up to life in the world of "huge" consumer databases. Unfortunately I don't have access to any of the systems I used to write to....and still do on occasion.

I don't notice anything slower in opening, but man is 3.0 much faster in manipulating the collection---I'm pushing 5000 DVDs in the collection (I had 2428 updates last night---Aaaaargh!) but it resorts and resets lickety split.  I'm very happy with the improvement there.

I didn't check against 2.5, but my 3.0 opens in approx. 13 seconds; regardless of the nosplash option. I believe 2.4 was slightly faster.

Terry, you have an older computer? 20 seconds seems dreadful long. Well, then again, like Pete said, good time to get drinks and snacks...
