| Posted: | | | | I really don't see how there can be confusion over this. With movies, we would never list "& bonus materials" as part of a descriptor, even if the movie was split over multiple discs and the bonus materials were only on one side; "Main Feature" is one descriptor, and "Bonus Materials" is another. The disc specification page clearly says "one descriptor per disc", and I have rarely if ever seen this deviated from on a movie profile.
Seems to me that the only things justifying a double standard to TV profiles are that the rule is not explicitly repeated in the TV section, and that "some people want it". In fact, the rules do state "If there is a separate disc of extras with no episodes, use the standard "Bonus Materials" description", accenting the rule without having to explicitly state how to treat the "main feature". The only logical way I can see to approach this is to ONLY use the Bonus Materials descriptor as given.
There is absolutely no consistency in the treatment given to this by screeners, either here or in the Invelos days. I'm not criticising, just saying. I've made contributions which solely consisted of removing "& bonus materials" from TV disc labels, and they've sometimes gone through both with and without negative votes, and sometimes been turned down, again with or without negative votes. I haven't bothered in a long time except as part of a larger update, but we can find a precedent for practically anything in the screening process, there's no real method for distinguishing acceptability that way. |

Movies are very different in that they are typically on one disc, two at the most. TV Sets are spread out over multiple discs, seven for most of the Star Trek series, and knowing that the special features are on which disc is useful information for those who like to view the special features. The reason that there is a separate section of rules for TV Sets is precisely because Invelos recognizes that they are different from movies and therefore need to be profiled differently. The "one description" phrase was left out of the TV set section of the Rules. Therefore, it does not apply to TV sets. To say that becasue it was left out we should go back to the "standard rules" for guidance just doesn't make sense. There is a specific section in the TV set Rules on Disc IDs and descriptions. Since it is addressed in the TV set Rules, that trumps anything in the standard Rules. If Disc IDs were not addressed at all in the TV Series section of the Rules, then I would agree that the standard Rules would apply. But that is not the case here. I personally have submitted over 100 child profiles for Star Trek series over the past couple of months (mostly new, never in the database) while updating the cast and crew for the parent profiles and I have used the "Episodes + Special Features" description on every disc where it applied. They have all been approved, without exception. That seems pretty consistent to me. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Indeed, but it's not practical. Is it to be added to every disc that contains anything more than simply episodes? Some of the most valuable extras, I have commentaries in mind, are almost always ignored when deciding to add the "& bonus materials" label. In fact I can't remember having seen it on anything other than a final disc which contains episodes and bonuses alike. I'll certainly give you that, but I don't see a need for a distinction over this issue. Quote: The "one description" phrase was left out of the TV set section of the Rules. Therefore, it does not apply to TV sets. Definitely don't agree with that. It's not specified, but it's not contradicted, so why abandon it? But there's nothing there TO trump it, it just says "label", it doesn't say that any old thing can go there. There really is no case for "it happened this way this time so it'll happen that way again," on either side. All too often ambiguous changes get accepted with other more solid updates. It's not wrong or right, it's just no reason to turn something down, even if there would be objection to ambigous field were it to be updated alone. |

| Posted: | | | | They have always been accepted without a problem when I removed it as well. Just because it went through with it every time means as little... and just as much... as just because it went through when removing it every time. | | | Pete |

I guess someone added the ""& bonus materials" label to the final disc when two reasons happened together: 1) it actually contains very few episodes (considerably less than on other discs) and 2) the bonus materials on that disc refer to the whole season/series, not just to the episodes on the disc. | | | -- Enry |

Were there No votes with comments pointing out that that bit shouldn't be removed? I've had it both ways in this regard. Negative votes may or may not make a difference. |

Were there No votes with comments pointing out that that bit shouldn't be removed? sure.. sometime there was no votes on it... sometimes there wasn't... but always went through either way. | | | Pete |

That would generally be correct on both counts. | | | Hal |
