Many people are unaware of this fact, but the version of DVD is actually changed. Due to a lawsuit, warner had to digitally change to piece of art in Pacino's office. A comparison can be found here:

The unedited version is really really really rare, and I am willing to spend real money for this. Does anyone have this edition, or knows someone who knows someone?

I have it, but not willing to part with it.

I just checked ebay as I got mine for cheap on there 4 years ago or so, and last time I saw them listed they weren't too expensive. There's none up now except one in the stores for $49.99 or best offer. There is one on the ended list that was listed for $9.99 and got no bids, you can email him about relisting it. He didn't have anything about international shipping on the auction though. Keep checking the US and Dutch ebay for it. Pretty sure only region 1 had the unedited version, but some had to have made it your side of the pond, and you should find one soon enough.

I wouldn't trust amazon sellers as you'll either get the edited disc or pay out the nose. There's a few there starting around $40. Everything cheaper doesn't say anything about being the original version even though they are listed with them.

Ironicly I did find one in a Gamestop last year and was going to buy it for trade bait or ebay. The case was decent but the disc looked like a baby or small dog was chewing on it. Bunch of savages in this town.

Good luck, wish I could be of better help. If I ever find one in decent shape at a used store I'll grab it for ya, but over years of always checking for them, I've only came across the chewed one.

From the UPC and catalog numbers on the case/disc.

Here's a page with info and screenshots in English, http://www.rareoopdvds.com/dvd-news/a-final-word-on-devils-advocate

Pretty interesting read. 425,000 sounds like a lot but this really is tough to find. Plus I think that's including VHS which probably accounts for more than half that prodution number. Look at the scans in my profile (or run the oop upc in your local for a better view) and there's the extra red warning box on the back cover near the bottom which is the easiest thing to spot (just make sure the number on the disc itself is 15090 and not the common 16172 if at a used store).

Another thing that you should be aware of is that the number of working copies have been reduced by disc rot.  I searched high and low for this disc and the first two that I got were no longer viewable.  The first had issues with a DVD player even reading and the second locked up after 20 minutes and wouldn't play anything past that point.  This was part of the early WAMO dual-layer discs that were so problematic.

I've heard this disc is a prime canidate for rot but haven't neard anyone say their's is unplayable until now. I keep crossing my fingers that mine holds up or is one of the ones that didn't use the crappy glue (pretty sure not all of them were pressed at the same factory or with the same materials). So far so good, I watched it a few weeks ago just fine. I need to just back it up now that I'm thinking about the rot issue again, and believing it a bit more by hearing it's happening.

Whew, got it fully backed up on my external drive thanks to dvdfab. I know it's due to die soon as I can see Wamo on the back inner ring, and it looks like the layers are starting to seperate on the outside edge. Not sure if I'm just paranoid about it, but it really looks like it is now. I advise anyone with this disc to back it up as well, then we can see who's lasts the longest. Now if there was just a way to shut the director up on the deleted scenes. Nothing more annoying than a commentary saying "now listen to this scene" while talking non-stop over it on a one channel audio track.

I figured the reason they were getting rid of them to begin with had to do with the disc being unreadable.
