For all you who loves your region free DVD player and wouldn't change it for the world in to a locked blu-ray player, a Swedish company sells region free blu-ray players (on BD and DVD):
http://www.dvdirect.net/

They currently have Sony BDP-S300, Sony BDP-S500 and Samsung BD-P1400. Enjoy

Until a firmware update either bricks the player or re-enabled region coding in the player.

You'll say, well don't update the f/w.

Well, what if a title comes out that requires a f/w update in order for you to actually watch it?

The best bet is to convince the studios that region coding is not needed.
Signature banned: Reason out of date...

It's hacked through an ICOS chip, not firmware - but who knows if the hack can be disabled through firmware upgrades or not. I wouldn't hold my breath on the studios dropping regional coding... I think hacking is the only option.

I wanted to confirm that the hack is not affected by firmware upgrades so I contacted them by mail. A swift reply on a saturday  :

Well all our mods is NOT effected by any upgrades, you could upgrade the player
without any problems whatsoever.

I also asked them if they were working on other models:

we are waiting for the pansonic bd30 to be released here in europe, we already
have the A version on our work bench

Sounds promising! I am waiting for a profile 2.0 player to become available before I upgrade my BD-P1200 to a multiregion player.
