I'd like to request the ability to lock individual crew/cast entries.

Sometimes I prefer to keep a cast or crew member a different way in my local (the current Jr/Sr discussion comes to mind) than what is accepted for the online version of the db, and it would be nice to be able to lock only those entries instead of having to lock the entire cast or crew list and thereby miss out on future updates.

Yes, I would love that. Also, the possibility to contribute only part of the Cast/Crew entries.

Another example would be if you locally list top-billed actors twice, because they are in alphabetical/appearance order in the standard credits.

Or, one more example, if you want uncredited crew members in your local list.

This is easily my #1 wish, and since it didn't get included in the 3.5 update, I figured I'd bump it with the hope that maybe it'll be added in the future.

Not sure how I feel about this idea. Individual locks on cast and Crew? I keep visualizing Around the World in 80 Days..

Ah. Well, yeah, that'd be a pain. I'm not advocating replacing the ability to lock the entire cast list with having to lock each one individually. Both would be nice.

It would only be a pain if you HAD to lock each one individually and wanted to do so.  As long as it's optional, it wouldn't be a pain for everyond -- only those dumb enough to try and tackle the 1800+ cast members.

Individual locks should be optional and you should still be able to lock all the cast (like you can currently lock the whole profile with one click).

I agree. I wouldn't want individual locks if we didn't get to keep the lock for all cast too. But having individual locks would be great. I've altered a lot of my local db names to non-contributable forms which locks me out from other cast updates.

I'd also like to be able to selectively contribute cast and crew changes rather than the all or nothing approach we have now.

Yes please!  This would rock.  It would help us locally fix the silliness that "As credited" sometimes brings to the tale.

Not everyone wants to have to monitor and manage two databases like you do, Skip:  one for updating based on the national rules and a second one to maintain data the way you want it.  I find it hard enough keeping one database in line without having two to deal with.  For this reason, being able to lock individual crew and cast would be useful.

Just wondering how people envision this working.

You lock a name like John Doe, then what? Someone changes the name to Jane Doe what would you expect to happen? The new cast member Jane Doe would not get added to the local? Or you now have two entries one John Doe and the other Jane Doe in your local?

The program as it stands right now thinks that John Doe is different from Jane Doe just as much as it thinks John//Doe is different from /John/Doe or John Doe, Jr. is different from John Doe Jr.

Until the program can only allow one variant of the same name into it's local database, I don't see how individual cast/crew locks are going to help. But I could be missing something.

I think one of the main reasons to lock individual cast members is to have a sure way to include undocumented uncredited cast.  These are not contributable (since they aren't and maybe can't be documented but that doesn't mean a user might not want to include them.  He'll never be able contribute his cast list because of the uncredited names, but at least he would be able to download newer cast data without having to worry about having his uncredited cast overwrittenl

The new cast member in your example WOULD get entered and the user would have to determine which is appropriate for his local database. But at least he wouldn't lose his uncredited cast.
