I've looked through the Instructions for Contributions and I've also searched this forum but I can't find any explanation of how to deal with entries in the field "Country of Origin".

Is this the country where the DVD was bought?  I live in Canada and buy everything here, so should this be Canada for all of my items? Or is "Country of Origin" supposed to be the country where the DVD content was produced?  If it's the later, how do I handle films that are made by a Hollywood studio but produced in 'Hollywood North' (Canada)?

You work out the country of origin by looking at the primary production company of whatever's on the disc. This is not the same as the studio releasing or distributing the DVD. We're looking for the company who actually did the physical work.
For example, the Lord of the Rings trilogy were distributed and paid for by New Line, a US company. But the company who actually made the films is WingNut, who is based in New Zealand.
So the LOTR films get a country of origin of New Zealand.
So if the films you are looking at were made by a company based in Canada, then the CoO is Canada, but if they were made by an American company filming in Canada, then the CoO is USA.

edit: your best bet is to look for a "A (company name) Production" in the credits, then see if you can find out where that company is based.

Thanks.  Your explanation makes the goal for this data entry field very clear.  Your explanation would be a good addition to the "DVD Specification" page.
