After updating both DVDprofiler and DVDprofiler mobile syncing with the mobile device fails at a random point when it's doing the "Sending collection profiles" stage. It can fail early or late and complains about
"Unable to write to remote device" make sure the is space on remote device etc.

System is vista and the smartphone is running mobile 6 and everything worked fine prior to update DVDProfiler. Tried a rebuild of the database just in case and no change.

I also deleted the dvdprofiler folder on the storage card, no difference except it now occasionally complains about creating folder dvd/6 (folder is there)

Hi.

I haven't synced in awhile. Tried today.  Same error. Random failure: unaple to write xxxxx, OR
not enough room on storage device....

790mb storage on my card.

Insight appreciated.

Considering that you're also having a problem with the desktop version, perhaps they're somehow related.

No idea 8ball.

The other two posts in this forum regarding this issue don't mention a desktop app. issue.

Personally I don't think the  sync function and the crash at close issue are related.  Not being a programmer, I posted the issue here.

I'm going to try un-installing the mobile app, and re-installing, to see if it helps.

Is this a built-in card or a removable SD card?  If removable, try it with a different card to see if it resolves the issue.  Is the card a cheep model?  Lower-priced cards tend to be quite slow with read/write too.

Try copying a bunch of files onto it (your cover image thumbnail directory would be ideal) and fill it up.  The goal is to see if there's a bad sector on the SD card.  If there's an issue, you would get a CRC error or a disk write error.

If you can connect your SD card to your computer via a USB port, use the DOS copy command to copy the files and use the /v switch which verifies the disk writes.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the image covers directory.  The full path should be displayed in the location bar at the top of the window - click on it to highlight it in it's entirety and hit CTRL-C to copy it into your copy-n-paste buffer.

Start > Run > CMD
or
Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

This will open a DOS window.  Type in "CD" followed by a space and then a double-quote character > " <.  Click on the "C:\" icon in the far top-left corner of the window which will display a menu - select "Edit > Paste".  Hit enter.

Type in the drive letter representing your flash drive.  For example: E:
Now type in "mk junk1" to create a new directory named "junk1".
Type in "cd junk1" to change to that directory.

Type in "C:" and hit enter.  This will return you back to your images directory.

Type in "copy *.* e: /v" and hit enter (change "e:" to your flash drive).  This will create a copy of all your cover images and verify that the writes were successful.  If you do not fill up the entire flash drive, create another directory on it, switch to it, and repeat the copy process until you do fill it up.

If you are able to fill up the flash drive without error, then your flash drive is good.  Note that you'll want to move everything off the SD card onto your computer prior to performing this to ensure that your entire flash drive is tested.  Once you verify that the SD card is good, you can delete these test files and copy your files back onto it.

OK.

Here's what I tried: copies all files off drive. formatted. copied all files back xcopy /e /v /h

No issues on any file of sector. Full format completed without incident.

Put card back in phone.

Tried to sync. Failed. Message: cannot write directory dvd/8

Renamed dvd/8 to dvdold8. created new 8 folder.  Tried to sync with no covers. Locked whole desktop program and crashed.

Since I deleted all info (above), all syncs are overwrite mobile.

I'm frustrated.

OK.
Tried the copy to card. Filled the card, NO issues.  Right up to 0 bytes left

I'm stumped.

I can't tell if it's something in the desktop, the phone, the mobile software, the flash card, etc., etc........

We've implemented a direct synchronization via card reader in version 3.5 to resolve this kind of issue.  Synchronization this way is also significantly faster.  To use this feature:

- Start File Explorer on your mobile device.  Identify the name of the storage card you wish to use e.g. "SD Card"
- Remove the card and insert it into your PC's card reader.
- Connect your mobile device and start the mobile synchronization
- On the Send options page, click the "Map Cards" button
- Pick the card drive and enter the name identified above e.g."SD Card"
- Select that name in the destination for each data type you want to write to the card.

Once this is set up the first time, you need only to place your card into the PC's card reader each time you synch.

New rinkle.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall the mobile program.

Now I get a "Can't find DVD Profile Mobile, install to defaault location.

Problem is, I did.

*****

OK, by trial and error (many!), I figured out you can't install the program to the storage card if your going to do a mapped sd card.

Not sure it's supposed to be that way, however the only way it worked.

Still need help with the upcoming.idx file

Dave,

I had the same problem with the upcoming.idx file when using the 'Map Cards' option.

The following combination worked for me.

Install Profile program to Main Memory
Store Collection to SD Card
Store Images to SD Card
Store Upcoming to Main Memory

Hope this works for you

Max..
