Blu-ray player region modification

Earlier this year I received a free Sony Blu-ray Player when I purchase my new Sony BRAVIA. It can play multi region DVDs but not Blu-rays. Is it possible to have it modified in order for it to play Blu-ray titles from the United States, which I believe is region A.

Well, you don't say which model you own, but the answer is... maybe.

bluraymods.com have a kit for modifying SONY BDP-S370-S470-S570. So if your player is one of these, then yes, it is possible. But - they only sell these mods to shops because of the complexity of the modification. (Unbelievable hard you need to piggyback flash(mount chip on top of another) 48 or 59 pin Tsop* )

Gotti Audio in Victoria is listed as reseller, so you might check with them if they can do the modification.

The model of the player is BDP-S560.

Well, there may still be hope. I know that modified S560's are being sold. So someone out there must be able to modify them. But I haven't seen anyone offering mod kits or offering to modify existing players. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't exist...

Blu-ray.com and
Blu-Ray Region Code Info gave me the informations I needed so far. And not to forget of course the DVD Profiler itself.

Luckily up to this date I could find all movies I really need either on region-all BDs from the US or from the UK if they weren't available or to expensive in Germany.

That's true, but not for the Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Box Set.
